Poverty affects millions of people worldwide; some places more than others. But what exactly is poverty and what are the causes of it? According to Wikipedia, Poverty is the lack of basic human needs, such as clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter, because of the inability to afford them. This is also referred to as absolute poverty or destitution. About 1.7 billion people live in absolute poverty. Relative poverty is the condition of having fewer resources or less income than others within a society or country, or compared to worldwide averages. Dictionary.com has described poverty as the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor; indigence. About 25,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes, according to the United Nations. As a group we have concluded that a person is consider in poverty when they cannot afford the basic necessities of life including: food, shelter, drinking water, and clothes. Our group focus is on poverty within the 50 miles radius of the Sacramento community.…show more content…
These include: earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, tornados, etc. With these natural disasters come devastating aftermath and the people that these areas affect depend on others to help them get by. A big example going on right now is the earthquake and tsunami that happened in Japan a few weeks ago. These natural disasters devastated many towns and took peoples’ lives, but it also left many homeless with much of people’s families disappearing. Another example that happened in the United States was hurricane Katrina. This hurricane wiped out a town that left many people stranded and homeless, needing others assistance to get by. With these natural disasters comes millions of dollars for relief funds and the millions of dollars it takes to get that city and the people in it back and
