Television shows and movies often try to portray what high school life is really like. Though high school can be a dramatic time, it is just not quite as dramatic as television portrays it. In the movie “Mean Girls”, we follow the story of 16-year-old Cady Heron, as she makes her transition from being home-schooled in Africa to the first day of public high school in the United States and face many social rules that many teenagers face today. The culture shock takes a toll on Cady as she witnesses the different norms, values and beliefs in North Shore High School. She was no longer in the jungle surrounded by trees, plants, and animals, but by the harsh reality of social rules that exist today in high schools.
Fadhilah Abdul Rahman Zamawi UWC2101H: Power, Space and Pleasure Group 2 Dr Johan Geertsema Celebrity and Social Hierarchy in Mean Girls: Where the Power Ultimately Lies Paper 3 Final Draft 16.11.2010 Mean Girls is a teen comedy film released in 2004, directed by Mark Waters with a screenplay written by Tina Fey. It was partly based on the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie chronicles the experiences of 16-year-old Cady Heron who recently relocated to suburban Illinois from East Africa and attends North Shore, a school where the girls follow a strict social hierarchical system. At the top of the social ladder are the ‘Plastics’, an elite clique made up of the three most popular girls in their junior class - Regina George, Gretchen Weiners and Karen Smith, with Regina being right at the top of the social hierarchy (the reigning ‘Queen Bee’). Cady is invited to sit with The Plastics during lunch, an offer only extended to a privileged few.
When Abigail was talking to Proctor she says “She is telling lies to about me! She is a cold sniveling woman, and you bend to her!”(Page 15, act one) she is basically showing her jealousy towards his wife. This stirred up the witch trials because Abigail wanted to be with Proctor and she would do just about anything. The fact that John proctor realizes all of his flaws and confesses to all of his sins is another reason why he can be considered a tragic hero. When Proctor had to go to the court to get his wife out of being accused of upholding witchcraft he eventually confess to his sins he committed.
But when Cady falls for Regina’s ex-boyfriend, Aaron Samuels, the Queen Bee is stung. Regina now decides to scheme to ruin Cady’s social future. Cady’s own claws come out along with her old friend Janice, who also wants revenge. And the three girls fall deeper into a “Girl World” war that has the entire school running for cover. Throughout the entire movie and especially through the scene, the lies that Cady came up with, have backfired.
These women are very upset with him and want him killed. Don Juan goes to Seville where he seduces Arminta. I really hate saying that, but everyone knows it is true and the more we pretend that girls are not mean, the more trouble we bring on ourselves. In the popular movie Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan plays a confused teenager struggling her way through high school hierarchy. Her character, Cady, is a transfer student that finds herself in a place where everyone is categorized in some kind of group, whether it be jocks, art freaks, or something else. When Cady first moves from Africa to attend a public school she is a nice, innocent, respectful teenage girl. Her behavior quickly changes and these alterations can be explained through both the Freudian and Behaviorist perspectives.
