The five stages experienced by a dying person are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Ivan Ilych experiences all of these stages before his death. The first stage of death is denial. Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is too painful to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. Ivan Ilych experiences this stage when he realizes that his condition is much worse than he wants to believe.
Making a final decision on ending a person’s life to keep them from suffering can be hard to imagine doing. Watching someone suffer so much hurt my heart. Some people would say ending a human life by means of mercy-killing is murder in the technical
A tragic hero refers to the nature or character of a person. Their characteristics may include having a tragic flaw, falling from a great height in society, and most importantly meeting a death, which causes the reader to ache for this character. There are many ways in which John Proctor of The Crucible by Arthur Miller may be considered a tragic hero. Some of these ways include that he realized all his mistakes and confessed all his sins. Another characteristic that makes John Proctor a tragic hero is his tragic flaw and his final tragic death.

He longs for death, wishing that he could end his own life without being doomed to an eternity in hell. This feeling lingers in his mind throughout most of the play, as in Hamlet’s fourth soliloquy it is believed he is debating killing himself as he ponders approaches that would not leave him at fault for his death; “Whether t’is nobler in the mind … and by opposing, end them?” (III, i, 57-60) Meanwhile, he also fears death as many of us today still do. Upon meeting his father’s apparition and learning of his unnatural murder, he is introduced to a new factor of death that was not considered before: purgatory. “Thou poor ghost.” (I, v, 97) Hamlet pities his father, as he was murdered and was not given the chance to pray.

Yet there was something about her giving up a.25 chance of a long-term survival in state in favor of almost certain death that disturbed me” (Quill 692). “Even though he believed in a patient’s choice of treatment, he was hoping that Diane would change her mind start chemotherapy” (692). Quill states “that as a former director of a hospice program, I know how to use pain medicine to keep patients comfortable and lessen suffering. I explained the philosophy of comfort, which I strongly believe in Quill (692).
If it isn’t, we are condemning people to a long and painful end without dignity or humanity and we are forcing their loved ones to stand by and watch, powerless to help them. These are the types of situations that damage the lives of the living and some do not have the strength to recover from it which has the potential to create more suffering long after the patient in question is laid to
