In 2007, I was a passenger in a vehicle that was initially pulled over for speeding. After the officer, noticed an open container (broken seal) of alcohol. Immediately the officer wrote two tickets, one for the driver and one for the passenger, even though the privately owned vehicle didn’t belong to me. I didn’t argue with the officer due to lack of knowledge with that particular law and didn’t want any extra trouble. The officer neglected to write an additional ticket to the driver for speeding. The tickets read “drinking on the highway”. My friend displayed integrity, paid both tickets because the alcohol belonged to him. If the officer suspected drinking, why didn’t he initialize a breathalyzer test to determine if he was dealing with two DUI’s or public intoxication? The judge was asked both these questions, and determined the officer had used poor terminology, but refused to drop the citations and refunded my friend’s money.…show more content…
I paid the ticket the same day I was cited for speeding, but was unable to attend the court date. The appointed court date scheduling conflicted with my final exam for one of my master’s degree courses. I chose to miss court in order to complete my final exam. I went to the county jail house; got finger printed, and paid the court fees and was free to
