Compared with other investments, opening a bookstore seems to be stylish. Sit down in front of widows, read under warm lights and earn money at the same time. However it is always not easy to start one’s own business. 1. Brand choice For people who don’t have any experience or are afraid of troubles may choose to join an already exist brand. Franchise stores are much easier without much consideration but also more expensive. Opening one’s own store may need a lot of consideration and work but can give people more chance for learning and saving money. Then I decide to open my own store, a wholly new bookstore, named ongoing. 2. Position and location My bookstore would be targeted as a specialized bookstore for business and economics, mainly operating with finance, management of corporations, social science, literature and motivational books. As a result, the location would be near the business circle, surrounding with office buildings and government organs. Besides with books I decide to sell coffee as well. It is not only for the customers who enter into the bookstores but also for people walking by. Usually there are not many bookstores around the business circle area, especially specialized bookstore. If there were bookstores nearby, it is better to choose a place without other competitors at a radius of 500 metres. If I have enough budget I would choose an empty room or a store which was originally not a bookstore. The best choice is the first floor of one office building and maybe the back of the building near the crossroads or it can be the basement first floor with conspicuous stairs. It does not need to be too big and my ideal area is 8*8 square metres. The rent fee must be higher while this best choice is based on the enough initial investment. 3.
