EGYPT’S ROLE IN THE ARAB SPRING The world has been watching a very important political event called the “Arab Spring” since 18th of December, 2010. The “Arab Spring” stands for the revolutionary changes that happened in the Arab Nations, which caused the fall of many governments including Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Libya; and protests in countries such as Algeria, Jordan, Oman, Iraq and Bahrain. It can be said that those revolts have a similar reason of occurance: those countries all lack democracy. Between all of those countries that have political problems; such as the governments being overthrown, large protests with a high death rate and civil wars; Egypt is different in one way. Egypt is a Muslim/Christian country that is situated in North-East Africa and has the population of 76 million people.
“It is not against the political program for Germany is master within its own household, but solely against the present anti-Jewish policy of the nazi government.” Similar rallies were held in more than 65 cities in 25 states as a wave of outrage swept across America. An estimated one million were expected to join the protest meetings.2
1996] Throughout the years, there were heaps of examples of ambush marketing in all kinds of from practiced in many sports events. One of the best known example: in 1994, American Express created advertisements claiming that Americans do not need "Visas" - an official sponsor of the Olympic Games, to travel to Norway for the Winter Olympics, such that Visa complained loudly to the incident. American Express said that the commercial advertisement was not referring to the Olympics and was not an attempt to ambush Visa. [ Jon Kelly (2010)] From that, we can see there is a serious danger to both the official sponsor and the event owners (e.g., Curthoys & Kendall, 2001; McKelvey & Grady, 2004) and an obvious growing number of companies are gaining attention from the audience by using the ambush
However, in recent years, as a resident of the Cronulla Beaches, these rights have become threatened. I’d like to welcome you to emergency town hall meeting tonight. As the mayor of Cronulla, it is with great regret that it could not be on more pleasant terms, but in light of the recent gang warfare, having together watched this documentary, Bra Boys, and been witness to lies, deception and manipulation of facts presented to audiences, I feel it necessary for both sides of the story to be heard. In watching this documentary, presented by Sunny Abberton, one of the gang’s oldest and leading members, the biased and misleading story of the Bra Boys may have converted you to think that their actions are justifiable. Many who are not aware of the truth behind this violent gang may believe the lies told in this documentary; however, I’d like to share the truth with you.
The Dresden Story: Racism, Human Rights, and the Jewish Labour Committee of Canada By: Ross Lamberston There were many trials and tribulations in regards to the labour movements all over the world. Some groups failed and others succeeded. However, in the end, they all left a significant mark in history and became stepping stones which brought us closer to new laws and legislations for human rights and equality. Canada was no different. In Dresden, Ontario there was wide-spread discrimination across the city.
Choosing to host the Olympics on Canadian soil has three times proven to be detrimental to Canada’s economy, and has come in coalition with the violation of basic constitutional liberties. While each Olympics provided joy and boosted nationalism, for Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver the heavy financial burden, exploitation of civil rights and minimal tangible benefits gained, made hosting the games a hefty and predominantly calamitous endeavor. ” The Olympics are about more than just sport–they are unifying” (theepochtimes.com) Sports unite people in a way that cannot be explained or replicated in any other form. Whether it is in a crowded living room yelling at the television as a favourite athlete swims to victory. Or are out there in the stands, eyes darting back and forth, heart pounding as the clock ticks in overtime, we are mesmerized and enthralled by the excitement, fervor and drama of it all.
Thus, statistics tend to focus on the poverty within third world countries because the awareness is usually focused on third world countries. The neighbourhood that I will be focusing on is the Jane and Finch neighbourhood located in Toronto, Canada. The Jane and Finch community is highly known for being quite violent and the poverty rate is also quite high. The community itself has a bad reputation, which is why people tend to ignore the poverty and struggles that many residents are facing today. Over the years the poverty rate has been increasing immensely.
Many political and social change organizations have been formed over the years to protest against a multitude of issues such as social and economic inequality and corporate greed. Two of the most notable organizations are “Occupy Wall Street” and “The Tea Party”. Although the two parties were both created to attempt to create a change in some of the laws our government has passed, the two organizations are on complete different ends of the spectrum on their beliefs relating to the government. “Occupy Wall Street” is a series of demonstrations which began on September 17, 2011 that take place at Zuccotti Park in New York City. This organization came about after an anti-consumerist magazine called Adbuster proposed an idea to have a peaceful
Anti-Japanese Protests of Spring 2005 and the Correlation between the May 4th Movement Most of China’s modern history can be traced back to epic events that had major impacts on the shaping and distribution of political power. The anti-Japanese protests and riots of 2005 can be directly related to the events of the May 4th Movement. Before we can fully understand how these two key occurrences can correlate between each other, we must grasp the happenings that led to the events and their historical significance. First this essay will dissect the initial progress of the May 4th Movement and how that mounted into an all out protest against the western powers of the world. Then it will flow towards the historical background of the protests against the Japanese in 2005.
Nevertheless, following the terrorist attacks perpetrated on the day after London’s victory for hosting the Games, multiculturalism faced its limits. 1.3.2.
