Isolation isn’t the Key to Success Loneliness and feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty (Mother Teresa). This quote states that being unseen makes someone terrible inside. By that person feeling terrible it puts a burden for whatever they do. In the novel “Of Mice and Men” written by John Steinbeck, there were many themes and motifs. The theme that exemplified the most in the novel was the theme of loneliness, which took apart Curley’s wife. The quote by Mother Teresa relates to Curley’s wife because she went through many downfalls with her situation in the story and because many things become grudging. By Curley’s wife talking to a mentally unstable person Lennie she seemed to take advantage of him by flirting a little bit with him. Lennie seems a little questionable by all that she was doing but he was going along with it until she says, “ I get lonely, you can talk to people but I can’t talk to nobody but curly” (Steinbeck, 87). This quote shows loneliness because even Lennie is having a hard time to communicate with Curley’s wife because she doesn’t seem confortable with him. As they keep talking Curley’s wife lets out all that she had hurting her inside to Lennie, she tells him everything because her husband never wanted to listen to her which made her loos her companionship. As Lennie keeps talking to her in his mind he feels that she is very confused into her self by this entire happening she gets herself into trouble. Lennie tells her that he likes to pet soft things such as a dog so she lets him touch her hair. Curley’s wife knew that of the experience that he had with the dog it wasn’t a good idea to let him touch her hair but reality wasn’t focusing in her mind. She took Lennie’s hand and said, “Put your hand right here feel right aroun’ there an’ see how soft it is (Steinbeck, 90). Curley’s wife is dead now and if she was alive she would of known better because she had been flirting with Lennie when he wasn’t stable. Because of the whole situation between them it has led her husband, to go into loneliness because he could of prevented all of what happened to his wife if he just gave his wife the attention she need. Curley’s wife could’ve behaved in the aspect in the novel “Of Mice and Men” because she could have got divorced with her husband or they could have worked out there relationship. Human beings make mistakes that are so bad it is physically impossible to turn back and fix it. In the novel “Of Mice and Men” there are many aspects of the theme loneliness that the author John Steinbeck personified. The theme loneliness is shown many times with different characters but the character that stands out is Curley’s wife. Curley’s wife went through many obstacles to achieve her goal, which was to gain freedom of not being lonely, but as she tried too much she came to short and her life ended by trying to achieve the best for
