Odin was considered the leader of the Viking gods, and he carved out a kingdom for himself in the Scandinavian reign. Followed by Odin was his wife Frigg and after her were the lesser deities. Thor, the god of thunder; Frey and Freya, the twin gods of fertility; Heindall the watchman; Aegir and Njord, the rulers of the sea; Bragi, god of poetry; Loki the god of fire and his daughter Hel the queen of the underworld; Tyr the god of war and Ull, the god of archery. The Vikings god Odin made them to believe that death in battle wasn’t in some eyes a bad thing, but an accomplishment or honor. It was expected of a man that he die relatively young in the midst of battle.
Clashed together epic battles between good and evil are fought to rule kingdoms. Fire sweeps across worlds destroying everything and lighting is used to win a war. The Norse Mythology has Nine Worlds. Asgard: was the home of the sky gods and goddess a beautiful place with huge castle and lush surroundings. Vanaheim: home of the Vanir gods were masters of sorcery and magic.
Thor is a superb hand-to-hand combatant, and also skilled in armed combat, excelling in the use of the war hammer, sword and mace. Thor possesses two items which assist him in combat: the enchanted Belt of Strength, and his mystical hammer Mjolnir. The first item doubles Thor's strength and endurance while the second is used to
The quote explains the condition of Beowulf before he is about to die in order for a new hero to arrive. “Then he saw, hanging on the wall, a heavy sword, hammered by giants, strong And blessed with their magic, the best of all weapons.” (Beo 513-515) This quote is an example of the archetype Magic Weapon, since Beowulf is the only person in the world able to use this weapon to kill Grendel’s
The Norse king was Odin and was both the god of war and the god of poetry. Thor is the son of Odin and is second to Odin among the Norse gods. Thor weapon is a hammer, it cause thunder and lighting because of that he can control rain, which help the crops to grow properly. Thor uses his power to protect Asgard the home of the Norse gods and Midgard the home of the morals. The Norse god Frey was 3th most important and he was the son of Njord.
Ares War, war never changes. It is the domain of the Greek god Ares, whose parents are Zeus the almighty lord of all gods, heavens and the skies and his mother Hera, the god of marriage. Each god has symbols or emblems that personify them in picture forms; Ares’ symbol is the shield, a set of battle armor and a boar; hence his nickname “The Wild Beast”. Just from these affects it is possible to conclude that he is a bloodstained, war hungry soldier. All gods also have personal weapons; Ares being a soldier is always seen using a sword.
He claims to have massacred 260 enemy soldiers and having “their heads cut off in heaps”. Clearly, Assur believes his title as a fierce warrior is the most important and respected of all roles as king. It is evident therefore, that Assur-Nassir-Pal II embodies the essence of war. Concerning the connection between Assur-Nassir-Pal II as king and the divine, there is a clear connection between divine power and his kingship. Although it seems Assur does not label himself as a god, he pronounces himself to be “proclaimer of the Moon-god, worshipper of Anu, exalter of Yav, suppliant of the gods “.
His strength and courage are incomparable, and he is way more humble and honorable than many of the bad warriors around him. Beowulf displays his great strength again and again. Whether he was fighting sea monsters, Grendel's mother, or a horrible fire-breathing dragon, Beowulf showed that his courage and strength should be an inspiration to all warriors. Strength and physical appearance are substantial to the Anglo-Saxon warrior. Beowulf is described as having the strength of "thirty men" in just one arm, and when he first arrives in the land of the Danes, the watchmen sees the mighty warrior and says, "I have never seen a mightier warrior on earth than is one of you, a man in battle-dress" (Beowulf, 7).
This means he has superhuman strength, and that is a big trait when it comes to an epic hero. He also has superhuman ability like when he pulled out the sword. "Then he saw, hanging on the wall, a heavy sword, hammered by Giants strong and blessed with their magic the best of all weapons but so massive that no ordinary man could lift its carved and decorated length." (Beowulf 513-527). He pulled out the sword that nobody else could.
This however, does not affect Beowulf a whole lot, considering his brute strength. Strength is one of the characteristics that stands out the most to the reader and helps define Beowulf as a hero. Beowulf is known for his physical stature, which is far superior to most men. He is also known for slaying countless creatures and evils much bigger than him (like Grendel). Throughout the epic, he kills both Grendel and Grendel’s mother without using a sword or mail and is successful both times.
