Describe and evaluate the humanistic approach in psychology The humanistic approach contrasts all the other approaches for one simple reason; this is that the humanistic approach believes that we have free will, this is because we are able to make conscious decisions for our self and chose our own path in life, and for example, the behaviourist approach is deterministic, as the environment determines our behaviour. Rogers stated that certain environments are needed in order for a child to achieve their full potential as an adult. Rogers said we need a condition consisting of positive regard. This means knowing that somebody loves you no matter what you do. He said we all need conditional positive regard from our parents, and if we did not receive this is can lead to psychological problems in our future.
“Conflict brings out the best as well as the worst in humanity.”! Conflict is an integral part of being human in everyday life and we as individuals have to find ways to cope with conflict in order to survive. Individuals encounter conflict in a variety of forms and situations and how individuals respond is uniquely different due to individuality and morals of when thrown into an alien situation. In times of conflict, ordinary people are affected both directly and indirectly. Faced with situations that force change, many individuals explore a side to themselves that they didn’t know existed prior to the conflict.
Journal 03: America Tony Hoagland’s poem “America” uses specific nouns and metaphors to tell readers that America is too obsessed with material objects and self-satisfaction. Hoagland uses these nouns and metaphors to hide truth from the naked eye, specific diction is also used in combination with these metaphors to expose corruption in American society. In the opening lines, Hoagland writes, “Then one of the students with blue hair and a tongue stud / Says that America is for him a maximum-security prison / Whose walls are made of Radio Shacks, Burger Kings, and MTV episodes.” Hoagland almost lists the details of American trends by mentioning hair color and piercings, and by describing businesses like Radio Shack which sell 70-inch flat screen televisions, which are completely unnecessary, and fast food restaurants like McDonald’s that give super-sized food portions. These allow readers to immediately see the ridiculous
This shows he cares more about what is right for the people then his own personal benefits. The authors used very strong language quoted by Del. Davis throughout the paper such as, “the death penalty is flawed, ineffective and racially biased. And if we can get enough people to understand that, then in a few years we can repeal the death penalty in the United States once and for all” (Jealous & Braveboy, p. 11). Those sentences speak a lot about how powerful words can affect us.
America still strives to be something great and eye catching to other people around the world. America has been around long enough to know what choices to make with the positive and negative effect. Though we are still human we take risks
Everyone in their life has encountered some sort of suffering, but we have to understand that there are ways to prevent these issues from coming about. If we believe a thing it can happen. By following the Eightfold Path the mind set will change. The Eightfold Path is referenced as the rightful and untouchable truth to the mindset. This path is right because it helps people to see that there is freedom from suffering.
I believe that the sovereignty of this nation is at stake, and that the lack of resolve of many of the elected officials currently in power is disgraceful. There are a few notable exceptions. For example, Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher from California in a staff editorial titled "Mission Creep: A House Bill to Allow the Military to be Used to Patrol the Border is Misguided and Dangerous" from the May 26, 1998 The Orange County Register, stated: "If nothing else, the primary goal of the federal government is to secure our nation's borders...If it takes military troops to secure our borders, then they should be permitted to do so. "(“Should the US military patrol the borders?”). Well said,
Reasons for Some Peculiarities in the Laws and Customs of the Anglo- Americans The section that I have decided to read and express my views on America’s Democracy is the chapter that focuses the punishment and the laws in the America. “Such laws seem to have been drafted in a spirit opposed to the prevailing genius of the American legislation, and such mores seem to run counter to the whole tone of the society”. There is a procedure that relies on two modes and action only, committal or bail. The first procedure in any kind of lawsuit is to get bail from the defendant or to put him or her in a prison. This is done when the validity or gravity of the charged has been talked over or reviewed.
Civil Disobedience In “Resistance to Civil Government” or, “Civil Disobedience”, Henry David Thoreau, a big advocate of civil disobedience and it served him well while he pursued it with passion. In the work Thoreau describes civil disobedience and his firsthand account of it. It is a riveting tale of his vicious battle with the United States government, preceded by a rant on the ineffectiveness of “most” governments. Even a quick glance at the ancient tome would convince the reader that Thoreau maintains the belief that if a government violates an agreement or wrongs a citizen in any way, it is the moral duty of the individual to speak up and demand compensation for the governments transgressions. Further, one could be led to believe that
America, “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” This statement to American’s is taken to heart and we know what it means to live in a free country. When most people hear the word freedom they think government or democracy. However, living in a free country means you have freedom in every aspect of your life, whether with politics, work, education, ect. As American citizens we can do almost anything our heart desires, because America is the land of opportunity and we take advantage of that. Many foreign countries have citizens that do not know what it means to live free, and they would do whatever it takes legally or illegally to get that freedom they desire.
