Teenagers in the 1950’s vs. 2013, Then and Now So if you were a typical teenager in the 1950’s there are a few things that would make you different just in the way you dress. The popular dress for guys were jeans and white T-shirts, leather jackets, greased back hair or flat tops and some version of a converse shoe. Girls mostly wore dresses and had longer hair styled many different ways including a beehive style. Today guys and girls are wearing things that push the limit in clothes and hairstyles. Clothes are more important now in expressing who you are as a person and the types of clothes you wear tell a lot about you.
The short story is effective to the readers in that it is able to show the repercussions of unbalanced power on one in marriage by the topics of dominance, ignorance, and control. Surveys could be a good thing with the questionnaires and interviews if all the people were honest during the survey, or people could have been dishonest and didn’t want to reveal the truth maybe because they feel ashamed for masturbating at a young age or being sexually active before marriage. There are four different types of methods: case studies, survey, direct observation, and experimental method. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method. The advantages for Kinsey’s survey research method are people were more open to talk about sex and if Kinsey interviewed other ethnicities, he would have had different results. Another eye opener was the extremely loose structure of the organization and how it has managed to survive in spite on this. Another striking thing was a group of people who showed up there not because there wanted to but because they wanted to get out of some legal problem. Seeing the number of members smoking outside who appeared to be chain smokers make me question if one vice was just being suppressed for another. My take is that the 12 step program has some advantages of group therapy sections such as those of the Yalom factors, however, it is not for everyone, and with some people it may serve a purpose at a certain stage but can get dysfunctional at another. People with social anxiety problems and depression, and others who cannot relate to a group for one reason or the other such as religious beliefs, gender and race should find another modality or group.
The Old Spice commercial could be talking to both men and women. Not only can the body wash be used for just men, but maybe some women like to use Old Spice. It all depends on the person. If women like to use the Old Spice deodorant, then maybe they like to use the body wash as well. It might make their skin all smooth and soft.
