The defence world revolves around technology. The modern military society predicts that the future of military technology leads to advances of information technologies (IT) under the context of the ‘revolution in military affairs’ (RMA) . The last decade saw the importance of IT-RMA in the art of future warfare and war fighting. This became a subject of talks amongst leading military experts and consequently brought military reform. Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense from 2001 to 2006, believed that defence reforms will guide United States’ overall defence to a higher ground in capabilities and effectiveness in terms such as information superiority, situational awareness, network-centric warfare, precision strike, deployability, flexibility, and jointness . These traits have materialised ever since; the US Military at present dominates the defence world in terms of military technological support. So what does military reform have to do with military technology in the next two decades? This paper will address the predictions of military technology in the defence world over the next twenty years. With evolvements of military technologies, military reform plays a major part in transforming the defence community of one’s nation. Force structures, organisation, equipment, budgets, doctrine, and strategy are parts of the mechanism of the transformation process that are well known in order to maximise the outcome of a reformed military. Ann Altman stated in her speech during the tenth annual Global Solutions Projects and Defence Exchange Conference, in Brussels last year that complexity is the main challenge in addressing the future outcomes of military technology due to the nature of the world as more irresolute, volatile and complex .
