In East Asia, women were subjected to a strong patriarchal authority. Through the use of foot binding (implemented when they were young) freedom was especially limited. Such as in present day Saudi Arabia women barely had any rights and were thought of as owned and a service to their husbands. Women in present day Saudi Arabia can’t go anywhere without a man and must wear a niqab or a burka to hide them from the affection of other men. Unlike Saudi Arabia today, East Asian women bind their feet to make them appeal more attractive to men.

Egypt vs. Mesopotamia The Egyptian and Mesopotamian societies are two of the oldest civilizations in the history of the world. The rise of the Egyptian Civilization, beginning around 5,000 B.C.E. and Mesopotamia, beginning around 3,500 B.C.E., began at around the same time period. Although they had similar ideas, the way they constructed their civilization differed. When talking about geography, religion, and political views, there were more differences than similarities within these two civilizations.

These two main branches join near Khartoum, the capital of Sudan and they continue together as Nile proper until meeting the Mediterranean Sea and forming the Nile delta in northern Egypt. Around 5000 BC, one of the first great civilizations developed in the northern Nile river valley dependent on agriculture in a land called Egypt. Water; Fertile soil; and river's flow north while prevailing wind blows south made the Nile the best transportation way, were examples of the Nile gifts. Another gift is that every year the flood came bringing disaster and famine due to destroying the crops and their villages.
Egyptian and Shang civilizations had many similarities. Most notable was their politics. Both had powerful kings, though the Egyptian kings were known as Pharaohs. It was also thought to be important for all women to have a sexual outlet. As simple indigenous societies evolved, so did the concept of polygamy. Through trade, science, industry and military events, the simple indigenous societies evolved into more complex political structures. In most of these societies, rather patriarchal or matriarchal, males held most of the executive positions in the military and political structure. With the introduction of either great power or great wealth, the elite males in a society began a steady but gradual shift in the values of the institiution of polygamy.
