The past is there to look back at our mistakes, the future is there to make sure you don’t make the same one. We have all had the feeling of regret it is part of being human. Living in regret can be painful, but learning to accept the regret will make you stronger than the person you were yesterday. Holding on to the past will not allow you to grow. Living in the past will just keep you living your life in regret and you will watch the days go by without noticing the better things in life. He goes by the name of Gatsby in the novel, he changes his name to suit his new lifestyle because he didn’t want to be reminded of his past. He did such a good job of forgetting his own name why couldn’t he let go of his love for Daisy Buchanan as well. Gatsby is a man that you would describe as perfection. He is filled with all the money you could ask for, well known to the public although no one knows him personally, and has that charm that brightens up the room. With all the power he holds he could pretty much do whatever his heart desires, but his heart is stuck to only one thing and that is the love for the woman Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby has not forgotten his love for Daisy and does whatever it takes to make things work. Now that he is such a wealthy man Daisy cannot say, “Rich girls don't marry poor boys”. When Gatsby and Daisy reunite they greet each other as if nothing has changed and Daisy ignores the fact that she is married to Tom. Gatsby does everything to gain Daisy’s attention, this is the reason Gatsby throws such marvelous parties, to try and grasp her attention. When they meet again Gatsby reenacts the moment they shared together, they dance and Gatsby shows off his wealth to Daisy. They have lots of fun going behind Toms back having an affair and things begin to look bright to Gatsby but he doesn’t realize that Daisy is married to Tom and has a daughter. All Gatsby wants is to go back and pursue his dream of being happily ever after with the woman he fell in love, but things are not the same anymore. Gatsby does not believe the idea when Nick tells him, “you can’t repeat the past.” Gatsby states, “Can't repeat the past?" he cried incredulously. "Why of course you can"
