A class gap is also present when Tom punches Myrtle and when Gatsby is shot, the violence occurs not between the same class of people. He made himself a rich man of high social standing, all for the sole purpose of trying desperately to win her back. He only thinks of Daisy as the girl he loved years ago in Louisville, and still loves. He refuses to forget the memories that he had with Daisy before the war. He can’t accept the fact that Daisy has changed since then, and has become an uncaring person who only thinks about herself and her social position. His biggest goal in life is to win back Daisy, so he has nothing to distract himself from that problem.
Overall Daisy Buchanan is what motivates Jay Gatsby’s actions and causes mayhem in his life. Jay Gatsby is a very rich man, but not many people know that his wealth is him trying to gain the one person he loves. After returning from the military Gatsby became a very wealthy man, and most don’t know where his money comes from, or why he has it, they just enjoy attending his extravagant parties. At every party Gatsby will check in to see who is there, then disappear. No one understands these odd actions, but what he really is doing is checking if Daisy happens to be there, because she is all he cares about.
He spent a lot of hard earned money throwing these parties and trying to make them the best he could so daisy would like him more. He was living in the moment and at that time all he was living for was Daisy. Everything he did, talking to Nick, throwing the parties, and even staying with the group, all of this was for the little love Daisy had to offer. He may have done a few frowned upon activities, some of these including the illegal sales of drugs and other substances. He also had to involve himself with a few people that wer not so appealing to others.
When he returned to his beloved Daisy, she had broken her promise and married a wealthy man as well as had a child. The person Daisy pretends to be is pure and beautiful but to the reader she is naive and too loyal for her
Tom likes Daisy not for true love but because she’s makes a good trophy wife. Tom cheats on daisy with Myrtle and he doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings, he doesn’t strive for daisy’s love as he knows that his wealth will keep her. Tom’s money and the lifestyle it offers are what attracts daisy and she is nothing but an object to Tom. Whereas Gatsby longs for Daisy’s love and will do anything to achieve it, this is proved when Daisy kills Myrtle with his car Gatsby loves her so much that he takes the blame for her. He was a non wealthy person but after he met Daisy and fell for her love, he had a dream to be wealthy and to marry her. She was a motivation for him to become a great man, and also the reason for his fall. Love, a word of four letters has changed Gatsby’s life and behavior. It made him a non-ordinary person to the people that knew him.
He went from having very little to owning one of the largest houses and throwing huge parties and befriending some of the most famous people around. His dream was to win back Daisy, the love of his life. They fell in love at a young age but when he left for the war to make money, she left Gatsby for Tom. Gatsby quickly decided he would do anything and everything in his power to win her back. He aspired to be wealthy and raise his social status in order to do so.
