Graduate School of Management International Islamic Unversity Malaysia Organizational Behavior and Theory Nor Izuan Shah Minhad G132500 Title: Managing Misbehaviour Misbehave is defined as behaviour exhibited by an individual or group that is purposeful and can be harmful to a person, the work group, or the organisation. Organisational misbehaviour is voluntary and committed by choice. Organisational misbehaviour is defined as ‘anything you do at work that you are not supposed to do’. It is also often identified as behaviour that is unacceptable to management and may significantly disrupt its functioning. According to James Richards (2008), organisational misbehaviour has been prominent feature of organisational studies throughout the twentieth century and continues to command similar attention in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Furthermore, misbehaviour has been the specific focus point of a range of scholarly debates that concern the tightening of management control over the labour process and job satisfaction under quality management regimes (Thompson and Ackroyd, 1995; Ackroyd and Thompson, 1999, Collinson and Ackroyd, 2005, cited from James Richards, 2008). Misbehaviour continues to develop according to the nature of modern organisations, the people who work within them, and to an extent reflects broader social, political and technological trends. Some shcholars have suggested that behaviours prescribe by the organisation fall into to main categories. Firstly, behaviour ithin the job description of the job incumbent. According to Katz and Kahn (1987); Williams and Anderson (1991), cited from Faridahwati (2006). The relevant concepts used to refer to this dimension are in-role or core task behaviour.
