To summarize what this article talked about it was a study done on the effects of soil degradation and the effects on the vegetation in areas around watering points and normal grazing lands. The study showed that in these ecosystems the overgrazing reduced the ecosystem diversity of plants in poor soils. It also talked about how overgrazing around certain areas can not only destroy the soil but it can also cause the destruction of certain types of species. Overgrazing differs in all areas of the world but it still has a common problem which is that when there is overgrazing no matter what type of environment you are in that environment will be
The sweet potato industry, although a high value industry, is becoming increasingly competitive. This underlines the importance of efficiency in minimising the loss of valuable soil. Large amounts of rainfall can result in the loss of soil on cultivated farmland. The loss of soil does not just affect the farmers it also affects the community The aim of the project was to increase awareness of soil health and to develop the best soil management practices for the Cudgen plateau. Figure [ 2 ] Water Way On the Cudgen Plateau, three adjoining landholders implemented soil conservation measures and strategies.
The water is not easily absorbed into the clay because it is harder for the water to enter the pores. Soil type and texture are very important to farmers. Too little water in the soil may cause plants to wilt and die. Too much water in the soil can disrupt a plant's ability to take in oxygen. Based on your data, which type of soil do you think is best for agriculture?
Compare the benefits of growing GM seeds for crops with the potential negative consequences of using them? The benefits of growing GM seeds for crops is that the seeds are more resistant to stress and the crops can overcome pest outbreaks and reduce the danger or crop failures. The crops can endure severe weather such as frost, extreme heat or drought. Now the negative side effects of the GM products is for example the wind blowing to different fields were other farmers may prefer not to use enhanced seeds. They are modified with herbicides and pesticides so the uncertainty of health consequences of humans consuming the food grown by these seeds exists.
Although the odor is reasonable to expect, the broken pipe that poured manure into Mr. Anxious’s yard caused a trespass. The dairy farm interfered with the use of his land by saturating it with manure. They should repay Mr. Anxious $500 for cleanup and incur some extra fees for the inconvenience. I also concur Northfields took some reasonable precautions to prevent manure overflow by building pipes, but they need to take further measures to prevent flooding onto neighbor private
Compare JVTF methods (such as crop rotation, pest management, or use of cover crops) with more traditional farming methods that have a negative impact on the environment. . They don’t use pesticides so not a good chance that the food will be tainted. Crop rotation is nice because its makes sure that you have room for your next seasons crops and they also can have sells on the leftover crops from last harvest. 8.
Maintaining a good ground cover and preventing seed set are crucial in stopping the spread and establishment of African rue. (Parson) * Physical control: Control of individual plants and small infestations may be achieved by digging out, hand pulling, burning, slashing, heavy grazing, or repeated cultivation. Sowing a dense cover crop will assist in preventing the re-establishment of African rue. (Parson) * Chemical control: There are currently no registered products for the control of African rue. However it is reported that spot spraying with Glyphosate prior to flowering may provide some control, repeat applications are necessary for effective control.
Zane Laufenberg Moriann Barker ANTHR 101 7 October 2013 Farming is Beneficial There are arguments like in the article The Worst Mistake in the History of the Human Race by Jared Diamond that say it was a huge mistake when the human race went from hunting and gathering to agriculture. I strongly disagree and believe that by becoming a farming race humans have been able to advance in technology quicker and now a large population of people can live stationary in a small area. Diamond makes the point that the bushmen of the Kalahari can easily live off the land and have a good amount of leisure time. This may be true but they also have not advanced a great deal in technology either. People in farming civilizations may work many more hours a day but they also enjoy the perks of technology.
Sustainability is the development of the quality of life that does not affect any lasting damage to the environment. Due to population increase, it then applies large amounts of pressure on the land to be more productive. However this then leads to over-cultivation and over-irrigation. As an effect of lack of farming land, over cultivation is a large problem. It can reduce soil fertility and damage the overall structure of the soil.
Since their is a loss of trees when it rains, their is nothing to stop the rain, and so it quickly moves down hill and affects the soil since the nutrients are all being washed down, and it will be faster to cause floods. This issue is causing Haiti to be hit by storms harder then they should. Like the tropical storm of Jeanne, that hit the north, and the four storms that hit in between August, and September. The affects of these storms could have easily been reduced if the forests were still there. Another big effect of deforestation is the fact that it causes soil erosion.
