Even when the food is available locally, you will find the same food from another state or country in the supermarket. While having these foods available to us provides many advantages, importing food from abroad or from around the country also has many disadvantages. Being able to keep up with the growing population and food demand is a great advantage of having foods from around the world brought in and having the technology available to deliver it to underdeveloped countries. More and more areas in the United States are being developed to keep up with the growing population to provide housing and businesses, this is diminishing our farmland at an alarming rate. According to the National Resources Inventory, which tracks and documents the nation's natural resources, conditions and trends, 4,080,300 acres of farmland were transformed for development between 2002 and 2007.
Some people proudly say that the success of this company proof that “Small logistic company cannot survive long time in market” is a wrong statement. However, under the trend of globalization, this company is expected to be eliminated from the market very soon. In this article the business mode of the small German company would be presented and their situation under globalization would be discussed. Why they success in past 30 years The business mode of the 3 men company is simple, source the potato from the local farmer and arranges shipment to the buyer. As the productivity of a single local farmer may not able to satisfy the buyer, the buyer may have to collect the potato for each farmer one by one which would cost very high administrative cost and transportation cost.
While there, a man named Yayi asked him “why do the white people have so much cargo and the New Guineans have so little?” With no clear answer to give, Diamond is on the hunt to explain inequality and to do so; he has to start at the roots of inequality. Starting at the roots of inequality we would see why some societies were great and some were not. Diamond believes that inequality has nothing to do with race because New Guineans are smart and are quick learners. He explores the farming of the Middle East and New Guinea, to explain why there was inequality. The Middle East thrived because they were geographically better suited for plants to grow and animals to domesticate, while the rain forest of Papua was only resourceful for wild sago.
In order for a group of people to even become food producers they had to live in a geographical area that had domestic able plants, as well as a climate that would support their growth. The transition from hunter gatherer to food producer enabled people to become sedentary. Farmers remained near their crops and had more children than hunter gatherers because they weren’t moving around looking for food. This in turn gave rise to the population growth. Food production also led to the storage of food surpluses.
Factory farming is rapidly starting to become one of the fastest, easiest, and cheapest means of food production all across America and surrounding countries. Fastest and easiest may be partially true, but what some people do not realize is the cheap part of factory farming comes at a devastating cost to the animals living at these farms, the community at which the farm resides, as well as the citizen’s health in that specific community. Most farming, mainly factory farming, has turned into an uncaring and very competitive type business. Unlike the earlier farming times, the well-being of these food animals are no longer taken into consideration. “All factory farming systems are designed to make more money from more animals.
Agriculture made human communities dependent on relatively few plants; the main crops which they grew rather than on the many different kinds of plants which hunter-gathers used. (Burt) To survive, agriculturalists had to gather all their food for the year at one or two or three harvest times, rather than gathering year round. Agriculture brought class divisions because farming introduced the concept of land ownership and thereby, there was a division among labor and owner, and on the one hand, it caused the elite became wealthier, but on the other hand, most people became poorer. In hunting and gathering society,
I think my colleagues are providing great advice but there is a great deal of information and knowledge missing in order for this investment to be successful. Entering a new business and investing can be very difficult. I think this may be a great purchase to operate a corn farmland but do not think the knowledge is in place to manufacture a corn-based ethanol. Based on Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman’s theory, the opportunity costs would first be determined by giving up my current job to start corn farming. I would be giving up a secure job, with a salary to start a business that would cost more money than I currently have to start, with no guarantee of it being
Along with that, he thought the increasing population would cause Earth to have a deficiency in the supplies needed to live. Malthus describes that plants and animals naturally dwindle, while humans naturally multiply, meaning that because marriage is a natural phenomenon on Earth, humans will naturally reproduce, contributing to the increase of population, and shifting the demand for food. In the excerpt, he also states that humans are restricted by misery and vice which results from this natural imbalance. Therefore, the common, or the poor would suffer when it comes to providing for their families. This ties in with what he mentions about the pay of farmers and how it is less than that of major corporation employees.
In addition, promoters of factory farming say that the factory farming helps the economy of a country, creates more jobs, and lower borne illness. In the other hand, there are some negatives of factory farming. Some factories are being cruel to the animals, causing massive pollutions, chemicals like pesticides, destroying communities, causing antibiotic resistance germs, and overcrowded animals in a factory. For these reasons Factory farming is a highly controversial topic between animal rights advocates, environmentalists, farmers and corporations. Considering all these arguments, I think the factory farming should be allowed to produce meats and eggs.
Food additives can affect food positively and negatively. Food additives have become more popular in foods because a large number of societies do not cultivate their own crops. Additives in food are growing in the world because of demanding life styles, no time for “homemade” meals, and just plain and simple laziness. Technology is also a key factor in the production of food additives. Although some people may be against the concept of a food additive, scientists do very thorough testing on each individual additive.
