Mahatma Gandhi: Role Model Mahatma Gandhi was known to many as a heroic like figure. He was looked up to by many and his teachings were sought after worldwide. Gandhi was a man of different colors, he stated “I am a Muslim, I am a Hindu, I am a Christian, I am a Jew - and so are all of you” (Huggler, 2006). Many people found Gandhi to be an iconic role model and someone with views worth following. I see Gandhi as someone with great leadership skills, motivation towards his goals and a decent role model for people that admire his views to follow. Even though I do not agree with every detail of what Gandhi believed and taught I still find many of his opinions and thoughts to be worth listening to because he truly did have wonderful things to teach us. Some of the topics that Gandhi talked about in his beliefs included human sexuality, the social issue of violence and gaining a spiritual relationship with God. Gandhi lived a very conservative lifestyle and had an extreme conservative viewpoint when it came to the topic of human sexuality. According to an article written by Daniel Vitz, Gandhi believed that sexual intercourse should only be shared between a man and a woman and that these two must first be bound sacredly by marriage (Vitz, 2003). Since this is also a teaching of the bible, this is one of Gandhi’s teachings that I fully agree with. God created man and woman and gave them the privilege to marry. While Gandhi does not completely uphold to a Christian-worldview many of his beliefs still match those of a Christian’s teachings. It was said that Gandhi had a deep respect for the Christian tradition of vowed chastity. Gandhi described this as “a small but inexhaustible reservoir of purity and strength” (Vitz, 2003). Another one of Gandhi’s great teachings was of non-violence. His worldview consisted of peace and love as a way of getting closer to God. Under
