Louisa May Alcott Why should Louisa May Alcott be considered an honorable American author? Louisa May Alcott was very involved in society and in the rights of women. Her influences derived from her family, friends, neighbors, and from her childhood. Louisa May Alcott was born November 29, 1832 in Germantown, PA., to a family in poverty. The poverty was a result of her father’s lack of income. Her father, Bronson Alcott was a transcendentalist who was sure that his utopian community, Fruitlands would succeed. Like many of her fathers failed projects, Fruitlands failed as well. After Louisa’s fathers constant failures, she realized that her father would not be capable to support her and her family. Due to her fathers idealistic ways, she grew up at a young age, and took on jobs as a servant, educator, and a seamstress. Even though her father was not the best financial supporter, he played a major role in her education. Louisa’s father educated her in his ”innovative Temple School in Boston, and later at home”. Many people made an impact in Louisa’s life, one of them being her father. A major reason of his influence was the fact that he was also a writer. He was not the only one that played a role in her life. Louisa’s “friends and neighbors included writers Margaret Fuller, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau“. In fact, it was a family friend that motivated Louisa to write her first book. Louisa’s first book “flower Fables” was written for the daughter of Emerson, a family friend. Her fathers optimistic mind, and her friends influenced her ideas and views of world. Louisa gave back to society with her books. She wrote books for young readers, like the very popular “Little Women”. Not only did she write for younger readers, but also for women. Her books for women were empowering ,and portrayed them just as important as man would be. Louisa May Alcott
