15 April 2011 Living in Boston or in Chicago Nowadays, the place for living has the most effect on people’s lives. Different kinds of people have different taste on where to live – in a small town or in a big city. As a young person, who came in the USA only four years ago, I experienced the difficulties on deciding whether to live in Boston, a large city in Massachusetts, or in Chicago, Illinois, one of the largest cities in America. Although both cities have a lot in common, they are very different from each other in many significant aspects. To begin with, both Chicago and Boston are large American cities, situated by water with a similar climate. Chicago is located in northeastern Illinois at the southwestern tip of Lake Michigan, the third largest of the Great Lakes. It is the largest city in the U.S. state of Illinois with nearly 2.7 million residents. The city has a humid continental climate and four distinct seasons – warm and humid summer, cold and snowy winter, rainy fall and fresh blooming spring. Boston is the capital and largest city in Massachusetts, and it is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It has a population of 617, 594. The city’s coastal location on the North Atlantic affects its climate and similarly to Chicago differentiates four seasons – warm, rainy and humid summer, cold, snowy and windy winter, and mild spring and fall. Next, both Chicago and Boston have a highly developed tourism. Every year Chicago attracts million domestic and foreign tourists. For Instance, in 2008, Chicago attracted 32.4 domestic leisure travelers, 11.7 domestic business travelers and 11.3 million overseas visitors (Chicago- Wikipedia).
