Life without the Sun University of Phoenix SCI362 September 3, 2012 Life without the Sun Life without the sun is not a thought that many humans would want to consider. It does not stop with humans; it extends into almost every ecosystem on planet earth. Most of the world’s plants create sugars through the process of photosynthesis and those plans become food. The photosynthesis process is only possible through the energy created by the sun. A plant, as food, is the ecosystem necessary to sustain life for animals, including humans. There is more than just food enabled by the suns energy. The sun provides the warmth life on earth needs for what is considered life above the sea and the gravity…show more content…
If on the other hand the sun, as an energy source, began to lose its effect in sustaining heat for the planet science and technology may hold some answers. By using the earth’s core there is an ability to harness geothermal heating. “Without this on the surface of the planet would freeze down to a certain depth, but the amount of energy contained in the molten planetary core could provide ample heat and electric power to maintain human civilization for hundreds of thousands of years or longer” (Fin, 2010). “If you drill far enough down into the earth, you will find hot rock. Circulating heat exchange fluid into the rock allows you to utilize the heat to drive a heat engine to generate electric power” (Fin, 2010). The possibility does exist to tap the Earth's energy and heat to sustain life through…show more content…
This discussion focused on life above the sea, its ecosystems, impact without the suns energy, and sustaining human life. There are scientific and technological possibilities if the unthinkable were to happen. Choosing the right solutions might include using scientific methods to determine the best outcomes. There are alternatives to scientific methods, but until researched or discovered it is not known what is feasible if one day there was life without the sun. References Fin, A. (2010, July 31).
