Erik Beeler Period 5 British literature Miss. George American Democracy: Unfair to All “REBELLION! INDEPENDENCE!” These were the cries of the people two-hundred and forty-three years ago when the founding fathers of this nation signed the Declaration of Independence, sealing this nation's fate to fight a war against Great Britain to secure colonial freedom. The rebels fought hard to gain a surprising victory over Britain’s powerful army, creating the United States of America. After a failed attempt at a fair democracy through the Articles of Confederation, the fathers reassembled to reform our government only to completely destroy the previous system and set up a new one. In this new system, only white male property owners could take part in both the voting system and the government. This was their…show more content…
