Aaron Copland Aaron Copland was one of the most respected American classical composers of the twentieth century. By incorporating popular forms of American music such as jazz and folk into his compositions, he created pieces both exceptional and innovative. As a spokesman for the advancement of indigenous American music, Copland made great strides in liberating it from European influence. Today, twenty two years after his death, Copland’s life and work continue to inspire many of America’s young composers, which shows the true power of his musical skill. Though Copland began writing his music in the mid 1920s it was in 1935 with “El Salón México” that Copland began his most productive and popular years.

For this assignment I will analyse Jack Layton’s final letter to Canadians, studying the themes and arguments it contains to try and figure out why it took the discourse it did, becoming an important moment in Canada’s recent history. The letter opens by thanking Canadian’s for the large amount of support that given to Layton in his final weeks of battling his illness, and goes onto a short explanation for having written the letter. He also writes about his political recommendations for his party but in and offers support for their upcoming election. In the first part of his letter he is taking the time to give out appreciation, both to his supporters and to his party. I noticed that there was quite a different tone in the first part of the letter than the second part.
And ever since then he has exerted great influence on American Indian literature: “Although many individuals participated in this explosion of Native writing, it is the Kiowa and Cherokee author N. Scott Momaday who is credited with inaugurating this period as the beginning of a contemporary ‘renaissance’ for American Indian literature” (Poter and Roemer 207). Momaday’s literary accomplishments include two novels, several collections of poetry, a memoir, a book for children, and a large number of personal, persuasive, and critical essays. In more recent works, Momaday has increasingly integrated drawing and painting with his written texts. Momaday’s long-awaited second novel, The Ancient Child, did not appear until 1989, some twenty years after the publication of House Made Of Dawn. In this novel Momaday shapes a contemporary story against the background of the ancient Kiowa Indian mythological legend—the story of Set, a Native American raised far from the reservation by his adoptive father.

Laura Miller of Salon.com wrote that "the characters, such as they are, are stripped down to a minimum, lacking the texture and idiosyncrasies of actual people", and said that "Twilight would be a lot more persuasive as an argument that an 'amazing heart' counts for more than appearances if it didn't harp so incessantly on Edward's superficial splendors."

Of all the performers of the 60's, Hendrix was the most influential in the world of music. His technically superior ability as a guitarist far exceeded the extravagant showmanship for which he was mostly known. Hendrix influence still remains today in the playing of every guitarist. He was also a largely pivotal figure in the continuance of American black music. He intently reformed the music of his forefathers and elders of Rob Johnson, Muddy Waters, Charlie Christian, and Chuck Berry, into electrifying future soul and balladry.
