Branding:Gibson Guitar There are many types of guitars and even more brand names but only one name truly stands out to most people. The resounding and respected name recognized more than the others is Gibson. Gibson has the same logo, craftsmanship, industry respect and standards today that it had over 50 years ago. The reason behind their success and longevity in the finicky music industry outside of their high quality guitars is their branding. Gibson guitars hit their summit of successfulness and became a popular industry and household name in the 1950’s when Les Paul made his signature design. Les Paul worked with Gibson to craft a quality designed guitar which became one of the most iconic guitar designs of popular culture and this still holds true today. Because Les Paul was a famously renowned guitar player himself, Gibson linked their name to fame and was able to make their name synonymous with success and talent. This smart branding move placed them on the right track to have their name associated with the famous guitarist. The Gibson line also has a very sleek classically designed logo that has held up through the ever-changing fads and pop-culture for over a century. A little know fact about Gibson is that, before becoming renowned in the guitar world, they started out in the late 1800’s as a mandolin manufacturer. Gibson today still embellishes each product with the same logo. The logo is placed on all instruments inlayed in mother of pearl on their necks just like they did in the 1800’s. This means their logo has been on the consumer map for over a hundred years which most companies cannot compare to their longevity. In more modern history of Gibson they have been branded by many famous musicians like Jimmy Page, Robbie Krieger, Dave Grohl, and many others.
