Jonathan Livingston Seagull By: Richard Bach Author’s Background: Born in 1936 in Oak Park, Ill., son of Roland Robert and Ruth Helen (Shaw) Bach, the American Richard Bach is the great grand son of JS Bach the great composer we all know. He attended Long Beach State College (now California State University, Long Beach) in 1955. Characters: Jonathan: Protagonist is a seagull who wants to do something they normally do most of the gulls, suffer the scorn and banishment from the band he was born, but that does not stop go beyond its limitations. Rafael: Instructor John S. Gaviota Chiang: Gaviota John Major who teaches flying and gives security to fulfill their dreams. Pedro Pablo: Gaviota Exile who learns to fly with the help of Jonathan Livingston Seagull and while the student is more fearful and insecure eventually realize their dreams. Henry Calvin: Gaviota Exile who learns to fly with the help of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Terrence Lowell Gull Exile who learns to fly with the help of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Setting: The Story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull was took place at the seashore. Plot: The book tells the story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, a seagull who is bored with the daily squabbles over food. Seized by a passion for flight, he pushes himself, learning everything he can about flying, until finally his unwillingness to conform results in his expulsion from his flock. An outcast, he continues to learn, becoming increasingly pleased with his abilities as he leads an idyllic life. One day, Jonathan is met by two gulls who take him to a "higher plane of existence" in that there is no heaven but a better world found through perfection of knowledge, where he meets other gulls who love to fly.
