She kept it a secret that she had male genitalia and was murdered by four men when they found out. These four men suffer from transphobia, which is the fear of a transgender individual. The movie shows the murder trials and the life Gwen lived of constantly being ridiculed and picked on for expressing who she was. Not only did Gwen’s fellow classmates, family and other individuals in society have a problem with how she expressed herself, but she often felt as though there was something wrong with her. These are direct quotes in the movie between Gwen and her mother: Gwen/ Eddie: I hate my life mom, I hate it every single day!
And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck”(100). And so, she was dead. Well, this quote “I don't like curley. He ain't a nice fella” clearly means that Curley was rude and not nice to his wife. She did not have a lot of privileges like she couldn’t talk to anyone else but Curley because Curley would get mad.
I found myself infuriated and judging this woman I had never met, blaming her for her actions. In my opinion she was using the insanity plea to save her own skin. After doing some extensive research I found myself touched, even moved and full of compassion for a woman that was lead down such a self destructive path by an overbearing, controlling, rigid conservative religious nut named Randy Yates. Most mothers who kill their children are younger and generally start out as teen-age moms. Andrea Yates doesn’t fit the profile of a mother who would kill her children.
People in Hester Prynne’s society were scared for their lives and some couldn’t even trust their families not to turn them in for an offence. Even though Hester isn’t put to death she is put in prison for a time and comes out of it almost broken. Many wouldn’t want to ever feel the sensation of the “sunshine, which, falling on all alike, seemed to [his or her] sick and morbid heart, as if meant for no other purpose than to reveal the scarlet letter on [his or her] breast.” (p.74) It would feel as though the whole world had turned against them because even a symbol like the sun, usually meant to represent good and happy things, is just there to reveal his or her

Rigoberta Menchu's story of how she an her family were oppressed for several years is a story of victimization and violence. She tells her story with pride, but at many points she is very angry at how she and her relatives were treated by the overseers in the finca, the mistress from the city, and the landowners. She felt herself a victim because most of the time she could not speak Spanish and was not very educated, so she could not speak up for herself. The purpose of her writing this text is to provide already prominent evidence that there is injustice towards and within the indigenous community in Guatemala. Her story of an indian girl who lost her brother in a finca and was separated from her family to make money and survive might connect emotionally with many more people than the act of protesting injustices in a large crowd or mob.
She is described as a person with an antisocial personality disorder; furthermore she is unable to conform to what society defines as a normal personality. It is impossible for her to accept defeats. So she intended to kill her adviser at Harvard, when he had forced her to resign post- doctoral fellowship. This incident demonstrates that Amy is incapable of employing her intelligence in ordinary areas of life. Her immature behaviour degenerates sometimes into outburst of fury.
I did not know all of the horrible things that many deaf people have had to endure in their life especially at the hands of parents and family members who were probably only trying to help but were terribly misguided. The deep emotional scars that have been left on deaf people by all of the treatments and attempts to "heal" their deafness is so very upsetting. I can honestly say that I had absolutely no idea how much oppression and discrimination that the deaf have had to endure, we should all be outraged, not only just the deaf community but the hearing world as well! Especially when I think about my eleven year old grandaughter who is deaf, I simply can't imagine and I'm so thankful this is not the case today. It seems that some or even most hearing people tend to believe that deaf people are below or subhuman because they don't communicate in the same manner as a hearing person which then made them want to "heal their deafness".
As Francie watches the women through stones at Joanna and her baby, she realizes that the women are hypocrites and decides that she hates them because “they stuck together for only one thing: to trample on some other woman...whether it was by throwing stones or by mean gossip.” One of the most crucial events in Francie’s loss of innocence was her experience with the sex offender. This is the first time she has had any experience with sex of any kind and it is a very emotionally scarring event for her to have to deal with. The final event that shows a loss of innocence in this section of the story is the death of Johnny. Francie has to watch as her father’s health declines. His death causes her belief in God to diminish and she begins to see the world in a different
The Faults in Human Nature In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the author Harper Lee highlights the negative aspects of human nature through the eyes of a 7-year-old girl named Scout. Throughout the novel there are situations where the people of Maycomb fall under the influence of their neighbours, leading them to bring out a repugnant side of themselves. The townsfolk were filled with prejudice against the blacks in their community simply for the fact that they did not understand the way they live. This is usually caused by heredity because children are taught from a young age only one opinion, and presume it is right. Sadly, not knowing any better, they discriminate against them, not knowing what else to do.
