This novel is set in the time period of the Great Depression and many people were not given equal rights. Curley’s wife is an outcast in the novel. If Curley ever saw her just hanging around he would tell her to go back to the house. Curley is always looking for his wife to make sure she is not talking to the other men. “You seen a girl around here?”(37).
Many men fell for this and in my opinion she became very powerful in a sense. I believe Cathy was a very selfish character. While reading East of Eden I thought that she might have had mental problems. I was furious that she tried to kill her baby and later on lied about why say tried to do such a thing. Then when she gave birth to her twins sons, she acted as if she did not want them and I believe that Cathy was selfish was because she shot her husband in the shoulder.
Her dealing with these individuals has caused her to become very resentful, bitter and jealous. She was very jealous of her sister Stella-Rondo. In the text Sister stated “I was getting along fine with Mama, Papa-Daddy and Uncle Rondo until my sister Stella-Rondo just separated from her husband and came back home again” ( Welty, 367). This statement that Sister made insinuates that she does not want her sister around. And would be thankful if she went back to where she came from.
He ain’t a nice fella” (Steinbeck 89). This conversation she had with Lennie affected her life because she did not feel so alone anymore since she told Lennie her secrets. Secondly, a tragedy that Curley’s wife faced is that she gets suffocated by Lennie and dies. As Lennie held his big paws to her face, ”her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (Steinbeck 91).
Maxim de Winter hates his wife very much as she was a profligate woman. Rebecca had secret relationships with many other men including ger cousin. She threatened de Winter and forced him to accept the situation and promised to play as a perfect wife. When she was diagnosed as cancer, she cheated de Winter by saying that she had a child with her cousin and almost made de Winter kill her. She was finally died of an accident, but continued to bother him even after he had married the heroin.
I’m upset because the other children bully him, especially a boy called Clifford and a girl named Aggie. Dave thinks it is only a matter of time before she kills him, and he gets more rebellious, hoping that she will do it and so end his misery. One day at the store with his mother and brothers, he refuses to follow her orders, and when they get out of the store she beats him. When they get home she gives him another dose of the “bathroom treatment,” locking him in the bathroom with the poisonous fumes of ammonia and Clorox. In the fall of 1972, Dave’s mother seems to get worse.
She also starts to blame people for her miscarriage as well as herself. Mariam and Rasheed’s relationship soon starts to fade and they begin to lose interest in each other. Chapter 15 Rasheed starts to blame Mariam for the death of their unborn child. Everything Mariam says to him irritates him and Rasheed shows a major lack of interest in Mariam. Mariam tries to do whatever she can to please Rasheed, but none of her efforts seem to work.He begins to become overly abusive with Mariam and the abuse is consistent.
I believe that he lying and that he left this woman in a state of distress that contributed to her state of mind when she committed suicide. Furthermore, Mrs Billings and Ms Billings both treated Ms Smith badly. Mrs Birling refusal to help Ms Smith must have made Ms Smith feel like she had no one to turn to. Furthermore, Ms Billings was jealous of Ms Smith and, once again, Ms Smith loses another job. Ms Smith must have felt that she didn't have any friends at
Curley treats his wife as an object and forbids her from talking to other people. Candy is old, disabled, and can not work. Crooks is being racially discriminated and bullied. As a result, their lonely. Curley’s Wife’s loneliness is caused by her husband.
To her parents she is an unlucky child because her mother died giving birth to her. She is treated differently to her other siblings. Niag is Fathers new wife. She is an evil, mean stepmother who always makes sure Adeline is treated badly. Father is Adeline’s dad who always goes along with what Niag says.
