Jainism Jainism is a puritanical religion of India, considered much older than Buddhism by many scholars. Jainism teaches the eternity and revivification of the ataman and understates the being of a pure or omnipresent supreme. It’s the only religion in the world which has not flourished or spread across the globe, due to its rigidness and non feasibility towards the changing world or adaptability towards the modern world has kept this religion form making a great progress. Considered one of the oldest religions of the world, Jainism institutes the ideas or ideals of the Tirthankars, also known as Jinas or the conqueror of the senses, Jainism calls for a pure and peacefully life. According to historians and Jain scriptures Jainism is divided into two sects the Digambara jains form southern India and shvetambara form northern India. Many a times Jainism is associated with or its origin with Bhagwan Mahavira, evidences have proved that Mahivira was a very important figure in Jain history. Mahivir was born in a rich family that of a king and had all the comforts of life. Mahivir’s early life was of hard ship, he renounced every possession he had including clothes on his body, he lived on alms given by people, he was often abused, as he practiced nonviolence .He practiced and undertook extreme fast and meditated continuously for longer time almost after 12 yrs. He attained the enlightenment and oneness with the ataman. Mahivir’s enlightenment was the significant factor in the history of jains, from this point onwards he became the 24th thirthankar. Mahivira established a jain community of nuns, monks, laywomen and laymen. Jains celebrate five important moments of mahivir’s life: his conception, birth, renunciation, enlightenment and final spiritual liberation or moksha.
