Actually causing pain to a person’s body can be an effective tool for gaining the information. In the news lately there has been a lot of coverage over water boarding. Is this a torture of the mind or the body? Whichever way you believe it has been proven to be an effective method. Having a person think that they are drowning, when in fact they are not, in order to save the lives of those who will surely die.
Prison time is an effective deterrent to a point, with some people more time is needed. Prosecutors should have the option of using a variety of punishments in order to minimize crime. The most fundamental principle of justice is that the punishment should fit the crime. When someone plans and brutally murders another person, it would seem that justice would be better served if they too were killed as they had planned to kill another human being. Our justice system shows more sympathy for criminals than it does victims and this should be altered.
The right of “innocent until proven guilty” is one of the most important rights we Americans have. Regardless if these people are enemies of the Country, they stillhave the same rights under our laws. Freedoms of Americans are spelled out plainly in the Constitution, guarded by our laws, and the treaties we have with other countries. Torture violates all of these guidelines. If we do not show these freedoms to people of other countries, then we do our whole country a dishonor.
Offenders can be a combination of any of these three classifications. However, there is an issue with blanket statements because each hate is an individual case, as every individual has had a different life and different incentives. Ironically enough, the most severe Offenders of “hate crime” are victims themselves. Abuse can cause physical and internal problems; which can lead a person to have long lasting effects even into adulthood. The first reason why immigrants should report or advice other people about this act is about the internal and physical problems that the practice of that act could cause. Many times, immigrant officers beat or abuse an immigrant for non logical reasons, and none of those reasons are acceptable. We are all humans. Even though the consequences of their maltreatment may not be serious, immigrants should always report this act which sometimes can cost them their lives.
Do you prosecute that as a hate-crime, just because it might be? One group of people is now getting special treatment under the law. That sounds lot like discrimination to me, which isn't how this country is supposed to work. Whatever happened to equal protection under the law? Further, because most hate-crime legislation puts added effort into prosecuting crimes against certain individuals or groups, what about the same crimes committed against someone who doesn't fit into one of those groups?
Maybe there is a better way to punish those accused of wrong doings. On the other hand, when he expresses the valuable use of terror pertaining to a country's most urgent needs, it makes more sense. I am a strong believer in doing things for the good of the majority. People who indulge in activities that only benefit themselves and possibly harm others should be dealt with. And with the context of his writings being much different than the lifestyle I am accustomed to, I begin to understand his principles.
Two ethical theories I will compare and contrast in this essay are: Moral Egoism and Utilitarianism. Moral egoism is the belief that an action is only morally justified if the consequences of the action are more favorable than unfavorable to the person or group performing the action. Under the strictest philosophy of moral egoism, rape, murder, theft, dishonesty, and many other things most people consider immoral, are justified. It is always correct for a person to do what is in their self-interest, even if it harms someone else. A person cannot do “whatever they like” because in many cases that would include things that are actually not beneficial to them.
They are wrong about that. It is the cause of much misery and much criminal activity in our society so the penalty that I must impose upon you must deter not only you but also others from acting as you have done. It is plainly necessary to impose a sentence of imprisonment. However, you made full and frank admissions to the police at the earliest stage and you entered your plea at the earliest opportunity. You are entitled to a discount on account of that.
With this power comes a great amount of responsibility that can be correlated to abuse. Depending on who you ask the primary purpose of this agency is to protect and serve the general population. Force and even deadly force can be used in situations whenever the use of such is reasonable and prudent. The question is what is considered to be reasonable in reference to use of force? This question is yet to be answered; however, most people agree that it depends on the situation.
