Diversity Calvin A. Johnson ETH/125 April 28, 2012 Cherlessia Williams United States, a nation where you will find a variety of different people from various walks of life. The Country named, “land of the free, and home of the brave” is derived of not only one type of culture but a culture very diverse from that of any other. Living in the United States amongst a very distinct diverse group of people has made my experiences some what very entertaining. Being in a country where there are some many other s that are not like me has taught me to appreciate and admire the differences we have amongst us as they help to bring uniqueness to our society. Learning and defining diversity has helped me to understand the true meaning of the term
I realized my classmates weren’t eating rice and beans, rice pudding, or drinking natural fruit juices. All the kids were eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, cookies and juice boxes. I eventually made friends, who started sharing their snacks with me and my eating habits completely changed shortly after. I started asking for macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets with a Capri sun instead of rice, beans, steak and a juice. I went on to kindergarten and then elementary school, I made lots of friends but most importantly two best friends who live in my neighborhood, actually they’re my neighbors.
Most of his time is spent behind a desk or sitting at the table grading papers. When he needs a break he usually goes to the fridge for a snack. Having grown up in the same household, Mickey and Jim have similar food preferences. Both love old-fashioned eating: bacon and eggs, ham and cheese, steak and potatoes. As kids, neither brother wanted to eat his vegetables, although they do eat some vegetables now.
Nowadays the traditional festivals are not the signals of the culture and history anymore. There become the tools of the business people who do not have conscience. For New Year, many people chose to go outside to have the New Year eve dinner, and they do not make dumplings any longer. When they go outside, the business people tried to names their dishes with beautiful implied meanings, and then raise the price to earn more money. In the mid-autumn festival, the moon cake became a fancy gift but not a little cake that use for remembering relatives who are far away from the family.
I do feel pressure to improve my Spanish because in our culture we often have these huge gatherings where our distant relatives get together and I can barely communicate with them. I am more into the food in my culture. I could eat Cuban food everyday if possible; I love beans and rice, pork, and plantains. I feel like I’ve been eating that type of food since I was a baby, my sister’s dislike any type of Spanish food and opt for cheeseburgers. Although I eat like a Cuban I don’t particularly identify myself as one.
Not only does the division of power system produce efficiency, it provides satisfaction to its citizens, and other countries. The United States is looked upon as the land of opportunity, due to the freedoms that our government has bestowed upon its inhabitants. The government has been able to abide to the freedoms promised to its inhabitants, because of the process of checks and balances, which the division of power
All of the events throughout history we have done in America makes it unique. Despite America being noted of the uniqueness, America had been exceptional before, but where America is standing now is not how it used to be. People from different countries sees America as an opportunity as they see its freedom and wanting to migrate over here. Reasons as to why they see America as a second chance was because the government had let Americans do whatever they want, as long as it doesn’t disrupt the government. They cannot give a helping hand to assist each of the citizens, because the government only have to do their own duties by protecting the people from the casualties of disasters and
Mexican Immigrants and American Society America has a reputation for being known as “the land or the free” or “the great melting pot” which insinuates that this country is the land of opportunity, and we accept all immigrants with open arms. Although, that may have been the case when foreigners passed through Ellis Island; times have changed and the open arms of immigration have not been available to all of foreign decent in present times. In the case of Mexican immigration, Samuel P. Huntington, a professor from Harvard, writes about the negative effects that foreigners give our country in his article, The Special Case of Mexican Immigration. The important issue conveyed from his article is that if immigration—specifically Mexican—continues,
They walk all around the mall, stopping to acknowledge friends, resting, and eating. Some arrive everyday when the doors open and stay till mid-afternoon. Most of these people are widowed and have nothing else to do with their time, so they go to the mall everyday at the same time, to have some sort of stability in their lives. They go to the mall because it’s a safe and comfortable place where one can actually interact face-to-face with others like them. When one is old and lonely, the last place one wants to be is in an empty house with no stimulation.
I say it because I have so many things on my mind that nobody could ever know about. My personal thoughts, memories from my childhood, experiences, funny moments, just everything you could possibly think of! But, different from what anybody else’s private literature. Along with society, this quotes could fit in, I guess, because everyone one has a different identity, and is unique. And what makes them who they are today is everything in that private literature in their mind that has molded them into what they are today.
