An individual that is passionate is able to discover who they are as a person. They are competent to discovering the real meaning of life and can express themselves truly to society. Everyone has their own opinion of what they want, need and desire. But one will not know these possessions until that person goes out into the world and finds what they really love. Christopher McCandless did this when he isolated himself in the wilderness of Alaska. In the novel Into The Wild, author Jon Krakauer explains that Chris went into the wild following his passion. Based on the experiences Chris had before his death, it is apparent that having passion will lead to an eloquent life. It may be true that Chris’s arrogance ultimately causes his death; however it was likely that Chris’s arrogance gave him the confidence to survive in the wild alone for 100 or more days. Many people believe that preserving your life is more important than taking risks that can lead to death but, it is true that Chris has to take risks to experience the thrill of accomplishing something without relying on others or society. Certainly most of society would say that there is freedom in the society Chris used to live in but he just doesn’t see it. Nevertheless, isolating himself in the wild without any laws or rules but his own and nature’s was freedom in Chris’s eyes. In the early years of adulthood, people often struggle with their attitude when dealing with certain situations and may seem very arrogant. Chris in particular was very arrogant when entering into the wild. But Chris’s arrogance was the driving factor to giving him the confidence needed to survive one hundred or more days isolated in the wild.
