However, in this post I will focus and discuss the violence in these urban schools. I will also elaborate as to why some children act out, what things trigger their actions as well as ways to assist with preventing or assisting with those actions. PTSD Some intellectuals state that Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is often times the cause of some children acting out. These children identified with PTSD appear to be triggered by their socialization process. PTSD is often times considered a war veteran’s syndrome.
War is inevitable, there will always be conflicts among people, countries and leaders. War affects children in all the ways it affects adults, but also in different ways. Children are dependent on their parents for care, food, water and shelter. War adversely affects the lives of the children when they lose their parents to the war, lack of opportunity for an education and the possibility of living in a refuge. Children are exposed to situations of terror and horror during wars, such experiences that may leave traumatic impacts upon the children.
(2013) said that, "We cannot continue to dismiss bullying as a harmless, almost inevitable, part of growing up." "We need to change this mindset and acknowledge this as a serious problem for both the individual and the country as a whole; the effects are long-lasting and significant." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 20 percent of U.S. students in grades 9 through 12 were bullied at some point in 2011. Bullying should be a crime, there are kids out there that are killing themselves because of what other kids are saying about that person. It's just horrible.
In addition to learning disabilities, war also results in collective trauma at the family and community levels. According to Professor Daya Somasundaram and Dr. Ruwan M. Jayatunge, there is a breakdown of family and community processes, support structures, moral values and much more. As it can be seen, the use of child soldiers is building up a generation that may not be able to run a productive and prosperous society. So what does the future hold for child soldiers? Will there always be child soldiers?
Gun violence in the USA Based on the latest events, which would be the recent school shootings, you might think that it is often exposed younger individuals with a missing ability to contain their anger and frustrations that end up with being the cause of gun violence. The children who are re-sponsible for these school shootings are often poor when it comes to social relations. Bad parenting and bullying could be examples to why a child could be stressed and out casted enough to perform such an action as killing other people. When given the possibility these young people can, in the moment of frustration, exploit the law in such a way that it leads to murder, for example through school shooting. One of the main reasons to why such events as school shooting does not appear to happen as often in other countries might be because the USA is the only country with so loose weapon-laws, where it is relatively easy to get your hands on a deadly firearm.
I feel that violence in the home makes a huge impact on our adult lives. If a child is exposed to various types of abuse or neglect, they will fell a sense of hopelessness and act out. Thus leading the way for a “lost” sense of self and tainted future relationships. Rhodes makes a great point, “that it’s learned in personal violent encounters, beginning with the brutalization
Incarnations of Burned Children As a helpless young child, a single accident can have a life long impact. In David Foster Wallace’s, “Incarnations of Burned Children,” has theme and meaning, and describes a terrible accident that could happen to any young family. This tragedy could affect this young child for life, in more ways than one. The pain from this accident could make this child, shut himself out from many things throughout his life. The burns could possibly still be seen one later in life, their personal space could also still be effected, this causing relationship issues for the child later in life, and it could make the child feel different from the rest of the world.
Spanking Children Many parents think that spanking is a good way to correct the bad attitudes and bad things that children usually do. Parents usually spank children for these reasons, but parents should know that children can get some different [additional] problems because of spanking. Children can get depression, bad relationships and mental problems. Parents are asking themselves if spanking children is a good way to discipline children or not? Therefore, according to the latest studies of some organizations such as children protection, spanking can create physiological problems such as depression in a child.
Note- teacher marked, received 15/18 target "develop comments on structure." The poet uses the poem to emphasise how children are broken by war. The phrase "sirens ripped open the warm silk of sleep" personifies the sirens to give the violent image that wartime "ripped" children's lives. The word ripped has connotations of pain and damage and as it is a forceful word it implies that war creates a damage and pain on children that is hard to fix. The war is tearing children from "the warm silk of sleep".
The study found that maltreatment occurs in children’s homes in every country of the world – and that it is often based in long-held cultural practices, as well as a lack of awareness of children’s human rights. The World Report on Violence against Children makes recommendations for reducing violence against children in their homes. These recommendations emphasize the importance of: • Changing cultural practices that contribute to violence against children, including the elimination of corporal punishment. Promoting non-violent communication and relationships with children. Building parents’ skills in non-violent discipline, problem-solving and conflict
