I grew up in Mid–City near City Heights. It’s mostly a low-income high minority populated community. For me, it was one of the best places on earth.

One event in my childhood stands out clearly in my memory and become stronger as I grow older. It all started in spring during baseball season. My team, the Trinidad and Tobago’s, was about mid-way through the season, and we were doing well. This is because of all the hard work and practice we had done. All that hard training lead us to a playoff spot against the bears.

In addition, I think that someone with a strong sense of perseverance can become happier then before by pursuing the things they treasure most. When I was about ten or eleven years old, one thing that I was truly devoted to was baseball. During this part of my life, I encountered my first true experience where I persevered to achieve something I enjoyed. I set a goal to try-out for and make a competitive, inter-state travel baseball team.
