I. Why is recreation important? While often misunderstood and undervalued, recreation plays a key role in our lives. Since the beginning of human civilization, recreation has been accomplished through a variety of methods – but the social benefits have been the same. Recreation is quite possibly one of the most important activities we can engage in. As shown in the Canadian study conducted in Quebec, it impacts our lives far greater than one would assume. Initially faced with school absenteeism and high dropout rates, consumption of alcohol/drugs, vandalism, and antisocial behavior to name a few, officials noticed that there were limited recreational activities and virtually nonexistent transportation services. “These findings brought to…show more content…
Overall dependence on government assistance declined nearly two percent, median income of families increased almost three thousand dollars, employment rate jumped over three percent and unemployment declined one-and-a-half percent1. While not all the benefits can be attributed directly to the recreation program, there were several case studies on the participants – all showing drastic improvements due to the program. There were also several reports from the local high school showing progress in decreasing the dropout rate, vandalism, and drug use. This study shows the importance of recreation on our wellbeing. Faced with several serious juvenile offenses, this city decided to look at alternatives and found the solution with recreation. Recreation helps relieve stress, create a feeling of involvement, allow for leadership opportunities, and build positive relationships with adults2. The government needs to focus our tax dollars to after school programs that create recreation activities instead of funding prisons. Just as the small city in Quebec saw an overall economic improvement due to increased leisure, we too can experience the benefits of…show more content…
While these classes have their value, a person’s ethics and morals have to be found for themselves in order to be held true. The best indicator of how a person will behave is to look at their moral compass and see what has shaped it, whether it is religious or worldly experiences. I find the principles outlined in the Bible are sufficed to thrive in the business world.
