Sadly in the end, he died right beside half of his Regiment, but I’m sure that he also died with pride and dignity. The movie “Glory” taught me that to be a leader, you will have to endure some struggles and make sacrifices; it’s not about you, it’s about your followers and putting them ahead of you. Sometimes this may also involve risks and you may also have to do things that are out of your character. Colonel Shaw had to fight to take care of his Regiment, but he didn’t give up; he stood strong. It was nice to see that with honestly comes respect and with respect comes loyalty.
America has days to pay respect these gallant heroes; all that the public is taught is that they lay their life down every day for our freedom and that we must have nothing but admiration towards them. But in reality, the armed forces have become the very exact thing that they have been battling for years; they are terrorists. It is not very often that one hears about what goes on beyond the borders; the other side of the story rarely, if ever, comes out to the light. The US citizens never hear about the tens and thousands of carcasses left behind and referred to as “collateral damage”, all caused by The Heroes.
Would you do the same? Does Patriotism still matter? Some people are true Patriots, while others are not. Patriotism shows that you love and respect everything your country stands for, and you will fight to protect it. When soldiers get sent overseas, they leave their family to protect and keep our country safe.
We remember his words that what the soldiers did by giving their lives so that this country might be free today and tomorrow. There is no more slavery. This proves that the soldiers had not died in vain in the Civil War. It is only right that we should have great respect for the soldiers that gave their last full measure of devotion. We should realize that in all our wars men have given their lives so that this country might live as one in liberty, freedom, equality, justice, and honor.
We couldn’t help other soldiers who were sick nor give a proper funeral to other soldiers died because of diseases. We count ourselves as lucky to survive in that harsh condition. Even though Washington was a quick tempered man, we (the soldiers) liked him and his ability to hold together the army. He always cared about the soldiers first and asked support from congress even though it was tough because there were threats to his leadership. He also recruit Native Americans to fight against British.
Veterans’ Day lorena martinez Thank you to all the soldiers out there who are fighting for our freedom. We dedicate this day, Veterans Day, to every single soldier who dedicated their lives so we could be where we are now. I am always and will always be grateful for what America has given me. Soldiers have been fighting for freedom for ages now. Two great examples of this would be World War I and World War II.
Why I Am an American Patriot I am an American Patriot because I support my country to my fullest. Patriotism means to stand by your country. It does not mean for you to stand by your president or any of the other elected public officials. America is the land of opportunities. There are so many choices to choose from.
When is the last time you welcomed home any veteran past or present and thanked them for their service? It seems civilians take their freedom for granted; not stopping to think who suffered, has been mistreated, or spit on, came home disabled, and who died so we can say what we want, watch what we want, or go where we want. Although civilian’s opinion on the different wars and the service members who have sacrificed during those wars has changed over the years; one thing remains true; we owe our freedom, safety, and peace of mind to the service members of all the branches of the military. While Service members chose to enlist and knew the consequences of their decision, Civilians take for granted all the sacrifices made so we can be free today.
We have also come to learn that by killing one man, we don’t get rid of the ideas that he had. They just become translated to someone else. John Wilkes Booth planned out Lincoln’s death so meticulously and was careful not to make any mistakes (even though he broke his leg jumping off the balcony), making this the first successful presidential assassination in history; and by successful I don't mean it occurred for a good reason or had a positive effect, successful is meaning that the goal was met, to assassinate the president, and that is all. The reason this assassination is one of the most famous assassinations in history is because it was the first time any human being successfully shot and killed the leader of this country. Because of his death, many people haven’t felt the same way about politics since.
In today’s society, our soldiers are known as heroes, whether they are returning to their loved ones or still out fighting the battle. They fight for our freedom and us as Americans acknowledge and appreciate that. My dad had brought up the fact that while he was in school there was a fear of Nuclear Attacks. There was no real degree on terrorist activity. The biggest fear people of that time had was again, the Nuclear Attacks, not terrorism.
