Feeling that she needed to socialise, Cady’s parents enrolled her to North Shore High school. On her first day of North Shore High school, Cady was often left out and she was unfamiliarised with the school’s surroundings and people. On the second day, Cady had become friends with two social outcasts, Janis Ian and Damian. Janis and Damian had misled Cady into thinking that they were taking to G14 for her Health Education class but instead, they brought her to the back of the school where they skipped class. This is where Janis had stated that they were friends and Cady stayed with them.

Both Baby and Anne are very smart, but Baby isn’t recognized for it. Instead she is put into a practical learning class. “I didn’t bother explaining that I’d been on the honor roll at my last school. That I had to go to a program for kids who had learning disabilities made me sad beyond words.” (Page 202, O’Neil) Baby deserved more, considering she was on the honor roll. But because she had to go to a detention centre, the social worker basically forced her into going to this class.

Immediately after Emily developed the measles. Her mother was unable to care for her because she had to protect herself the new baby from the disease. Emily didn’t recover from the disease as expected. She became thin and withdrawn, even more than she was before. Upon recommendations, she sent Emily to a convalescent home where she could be better cared for.
While most went off to school and studies some were not so reluctant. One girl who got accepted into a school and was there for a very short amount of time got pulled out from her family and was forced to join the line to raise money for her family. This is very tragic because they did deserve to go to school and they did deserve to study and take action
“Mom, I really don’t want to talk about it.” Throughout the night her mom checked up on her to see if she was ok. Tears began to fall down her eyes onto her cheeks, when she decided to call Jordan for comfort. Jordan gave Mariah advice just to leave him alone and focus on school. Mariah couldn’t understand why this was happening to her. The next morning, Mariah gets up for school and gets 3 missed calls from Daniel. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest.
I asked her mom last Wednesday (6/4) to see why her daughter does not talk. Her mother at first did not want to tell me, but slowly she began to tell me what happened to her youngest daughter. She made me promised that I can repeat the story to anyone in her family because she does not want to bring up the memories for her younger daughter. She told me when her daughter was around three years old; her ex-husband locked her daughter in a closest every night because she will not stop crying. As he locked her in the closest, she began to scream louder and cried harder.
