In order to accomplish this goal effectively, I believe human service professionals must possess the characteristics of empathy, effective communication skills, and persistence. In the interviews with both Michell Duncan and Linda Williams, they spoke compassionately concerning their positions with the support programs of the YWCA and how the programs assist their clients. Both women are able to show empathy towards the clients due to having a personal relatable experience or just being able to relate to the experiences of the clients. They also have effective communication skills in order to communicate with a wide range of clients and constituents related to the program to assist the clients in meeting goals and solicit program support. During the interview, the characteristic of persistence was also discussed.
Ashes for Beauty there are only gainers and no losers. The program is designed for positive outcomes. The girls that will be mentored will gain knowledge, self esteem, confidence and the true meaning of self worth. Ashes for Beauty will provide mentorships, counseling, workshops, group meetings, and referral services to the girls (and parents) who participate in the program. The program will be beneficial to the girls because it will allow them to feel accepted for who they are, not having to pretend to be someone they are not.
