The differences between Gemeinschaft and Gesellshaft are evident. Gemeinschaft almost eliminates individuality, but in return offers closer and more intimate relationships between members of a community. Their social system
Culture does not make a difference for me when it comes to meeting people. When I first moved to this country and I didn’t speak the language I really appreciated those who took the time to get to know me, and were patient with me. I remember them and a lot of them are still in my life for the simple fact that they accepted me even though I was a stranger to their culture. I would be a straight up loser if I did not accept or tolerate people from other cultures, since I am different myself. I do consider myself open minded.
My parents just could not afford a new coat at the time. I am not mad and I am not blaming my parents for that. Just like Mabry, I understand those tough choices my family had to face. In my opinion, there is no substitute for personal experience and only a person who comes from an impoverished environment can truly understand the rigors it generates. Therefore, I totally agree with Mabry’s statement that “our friends are willing to listen, but most of them are unable to imagine the pain of the impoverished lives” (116).
Including social institutions, a system of behavioral and relationship patterns, having specific roles to perform to make society. I believe the Functionalist theory best describes society. Personally I believe society can only be stable through social order. Including that part is primarily institutions of society. Amongst family, community, religion, academia, business, media, and government are all equal but, when one gains predominance tyranny always emerges.
This is because Durkheim is primarily concerned with solidarity: what holds individuals together in social institutions? Durkheim believed that solidarity was the normal condition of society, and even though he recognized the turmoil may sometimes arise. These conflicts are abnormal rather than normal. Durkheim identified two major types of social integration, mechanical and organic. The former refers to integration that is based on shared beliefs and sentiments, while the latter refers to integration that results from specialization and interdependence.
Communities are groups of people who have a common interests; community in turn provides people with a sense of belonging. Ferdinand Tönnies was a German sociologist who described two contrasting perspectives of social life Gemeinschaft and its opposite Gesellschaft (Bruhn, 2011). Gemeinschaft was Tönnies ideal type of community, with its members bound together by a common cause as well as traditions and language. This way of living in a community was similar to that of childhood; a simple village-like life that is familiar, intimate and private and that brought about a sense of we-ness. Gesellschaft on the other hand was considered more a society of industrialisation and urbanisation.
She looked at me with disgust and didn’t utter a word. City life was not at all what I had expected. After just one day, I realized how important my small town is to me. Now I appreciate the familiar faces I see every day. I like the feeling of security and belonging my town offers.
It’s because there is the absence of sadness. If you see an established city, it’s not necessary that you show happiness, but then again you’re not showing sadness. If you migrate from a city to a village, you MIGHT feel sad as there as less facilities, less things to do. But of course, happiness is all relative according to me. One might feel better to move away from a busy city and enjoy the bliss and solitude of a village.
Savants are strongly self-motivated, but benefit most from instruction and guidance. Many savant love to improvise, and do not like to perform on what is given to them. They do not need an encouragement, however they like their rewards. Being a savant, these rare skills are generally proven to be kept for a lifetime. However, there is no way to prevent savant syndrome.
Big Cities VS Small Towns There are major differences between living in big city and small town. Some people prefer small towns are close knit communities were everyone knows one another and people are more laid back. 1.There is less stress in a small town because there is no rush like there is in the big cities. 2.There is also less crime in a small town. Bc people in smaller towns is more friendly.
