Gaining a Competitive Advantage through Employee Empowerment Introduction The concept of empowerment is evolving within contemporary organizations and the knowledge of the employees is becoming a critical element in today’s corporate America. The contributing dynamics in which organizations contemplate employee empowerment is centered on gaining a competitive advantage in order to maintain a successful economic existence. Empowerment is a course of action which involves management of a company training their employees and giving them the authority and responsibility to make decisions concerning product development or customer service (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart, & Wright, 2010). This paper will examine the affects that employee empowerment has in an organization, its history and cultural characteristics, and what benefits are created. In addition this paper will further scrutinize the strategy that management utilizes to execute empowerment, the importance and principles of employee empowerment, the advantages and disadvantages that might exist in allowing the implementation of such practice within an organization, and quotes which management can exploit to support employee morale. The Employee Empowerment Culture According to Morley and Media 2012, “Employee Empowerment Culture” article, organizations with employee empowerment cultures recognize the importance of their workers and pride themselves on seeing employees and their contributions as important business assets. Management is the sole source of the cultural implementation of empowering the employees of their organizations, and on occasions, managers may feel threatened when giving authority to other individuals.
