This poem is also based on several different themes such as death, order and disorder, and also the meaning of love. Throughout the poem W. H. Auden mixes his stanzas with some words that rhyme and rarely some that don’t. “This coupling of ordered and unordered patterns symbolizes the speaker’s efforts, and final failure, to reestablish order in his life after suffering the devastating loss of a loved one. It was also hard to distinguish if he was talking about himself or somebody else. Although Auden does not clearly state about whom the poem is written to, one can gather that the speaker loved this person dearly. The imagery, tone, sound and rhythm, the use of symbols, and the figure of speech used by the author was used to convey his message. The writer used symbols to reveal the depth of the emotions the speaker was feeling.
