Likewise, in Africa, the social structure changed as a result of the invading Europeans. During the slave trades, the Europeans wanted only the African males, leaving behind a significant amount of women, upsetting the gender ratio, forcing many societies to be subject to female authority. Because of this huge demand for male workers, many Africans fought wars over male slaves so their society could continue to stimulate their new found piece of the global market. Since Europe’s economy has been steady because of the control they have over the global market, not much has changed in the social pyramid of the
E. Slave traders called women “slaves” to African men-an accusation that went some way toward exonerating their role in the slave trade. F. All members of society depended upon women’s agricultural work and compensated for it at the
The slave community on the plantation predated Hammond’s governance over the plantation, and also managed to outlive his control over the Silver Bluff Plantation. The secondary source sheds light on the relationship of Master and Slavery, and also portrays James Hammond to be understanding of the slaves he reigns over; his actions are proof to my claim. He
Slavery began in North American; the first black slaves were brought to settlements in Virginia. It is believed that at first, these slaves were thought of as the white servants brought over from Europe. However, the black servants were treated differently than the white servants, and then were considered slaves. Although personal slavery existed as a cultural mechanism, its use was never as intensive as chattel slavery in the New World. Slavery in Africa was much different from the slavery in the New World. Slaves were acquired through warfare, indebtedness and punishment for a crime and had been treated like a part of the family and were integrated into the large society in Africa and the Ottoman Empire. Adapted by the first set of conquistadors, encomiendas serve as a base to control natives in New Espanola. Nevertheless, natives in both Mesoamerica and the Andeans region have been already providing agricultural and labor tributes to their native lords. For example, aztecs would own slaves who could buy their freedom through labor. The Incas had their servers collect tributes around the ayllus to maintain a reciprocity system around the empire. After the conquest and through the declined of the natives surrounding their overworked and poorer conditions, Spaniards did but little to care at the expense of their wealth.

The slave trade brought many Africans to the area and also caused much mixture amongst the races. The Spanish brought much diversity to the land as well as the mixture of people of Spanish blood and the native Amerindian people of the Dominican Republic.
