Breast milk has more infection fighting properties than formula. Breastfeeding is difficult in that the mother always has to be available for feeding the baby. The fact that it is more easily digested, means that breastfed babies have to be fed more often than formula fed babies. This places much more strain on the mother. Anyone can feed a baby being fed formula.
Eloisa Morales English 1301 March 22, 2011 Pros and Cons on Breastfeeding We have all heard “breast milk” is best, however as our society changes and as time constraints mothers go for convenience verses what is best. Within the past century more women have left the home and gone back to work, making breastfeeding less common. The need to reeducate and encourage women to breastfeed is imperative, but the choice is still ultimately the mothers. Breastfeeding has many pluses, the bond created between mother and baby is very special. Breastfeeding brings so many benefits such as it contains antibodies that decrease infant’s risk of infections, diarrhea, allergies, asthma, SIDS, diabetes and certain cancers.
The women in Dadi’s family mostly dominate the agricultural process and distributions, and also care for the household. The men, however, represent the family politically and dominate agricultural production. The role for men in Dadi’s family is basically to be the governing leader while the women work hard both in the field and at home. Many husbands expect their wives to perform labor in the field, fetch water and cow dung, and still have food and water waiting at home for them. Many women in India, especially in Dadi’s family, suffered from many
I believe that this is an important issue in our country that would help many others as well once women achieve their rights. Women are a large part of our population and deserve to have the same rights as men. Women are expected to stay home and take care of children and their homes but they also see many of our country’s problems in a different light. She sees these problems firsthand and cannot do anything about them (Doc C.) Women are stuck in in unsafe living conditions and are feeding their families with unsafe food. If women can not vote for rights, they can not help to fix the things others do not see.
They managed the kitchen, garden, the orchard and the dairy through which they kept their families fed. The women would also help on the farm when they were needed. Some women even up kept their own farms adding on to their daily labor. On the frontier rarely was a farm able to function without the women’s participation or a household run without their daily supervision. Aside from historians only depicting their roles as housewives women were also grouped into three certain groups known as the refined lady, the helpmate, and the bad woman.
Traditional gender roles and the workplace From the beginning of time, traditional gender roles have existed all around the world and they vary between cultures. But what is a traditional role? Traditional roles are behaviors, attitudes and values that society sets as appropriate or inappropriate for men and women and are transmitted from generation to generation (Wikipedia). Many of these roles are maintained over the years, but others are modified and adapted to current environment. In most of the countries around the world years ago women had to stay at home, take care of kids and do the home chores (women were not allowed to work); while men were supposed to be working and earning money for the family, but this thinking have changed through the years.
Abortion is the termination of the entire pregnancy yet selective reduction is performed to improve the survival rate of the remaining fetuses and also the mother. Selective reduction is performed early in the pregnancy, normally between weeks 9 and 12, it is most often performed when there are four or more fetuses present, can be used to reduce triplets to twins, and with a fetus with severe defects (www.webmd.com). Infants born part of a multiple pregnancy are at increased risk of prematurity, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, slow language development, behavioral difficulties, chronic lung disease, and death (Multifetal Pregnancy Reduction, 2013). These risks play an important role in a mother’s decision to utilize selective reduction. Maternal risks of a multi-fetal pregnancy include hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and postpartum hemorrhage (Multifetal Pregnancy Reduction, 2013).
High–protein diets not only limit some calcium sources, they can cause the body to lose calcium. * Constipation—MS can contribute to chronic constipation. A diet rich in fiber and fluids, along with exercise, is important to help manage this problem. Long-term safety The verdict is still out on the long-term safety of low-carb diets. They tend to be high in total fat, especially saturated animal fat, which has been linked to heart disease, cancer, and perhaps even MS.
Children’s bodies are still growing and their brains are still developing, so it is critical that we make sure they are getting the nutrition that they need and develop healthy habits now. For the first time in history we have a generation of kids that are less likely to have a lifespan as long as their parents. They face higher instances of obesity, diabetes and heart disease and even learning disabilities, due to improper nutrition. We are literally filling them with poisonous chemicals and food devoid of real nutritional value. We are filling their bellies, but starving their bodies.
Importance of a healthy diet before becoming pregnant A woman’s nutritional status during pregnancy depends on the availability of nutritional reserves, that is, stores of particular micronutrients such as calcium and iron, which have been built up in her body from prior consumption of foods containing those micronutrients. As these reserves build up before a woman becomes pregnant, maintaining good nutrition prior to conception is vital for ensuring adequate nutritional status during pregnancy. Women who are underweight or overweight, or who have deficiencies in particular micronutrients rarely “catch-up” by improving their diet once they are pregnant, as at this stage their body already faces additional nutritional demands because of the growing baby. Maintaining a healthy diet prior to conception is also important because the ongoing development of the baby depends on the health of the embryo from which it is formed. The embryo is the name of the first cells which reproduce when a sperm and egg meet and conceive.
