The captain then confesses that he was the one who shot Eddie in the leg to prevent Eddie from chasing the
Amir would rather his father love him and be proud of him for one day than help his best friend from getting raped. Amir was selfish and unappreciative. After Hassan got raped, the relationship between him and Amir changed for the worst. Amir did another terrible thing by framming Hassan. This was the last time Amir saw Hassan because after Hassan and his father left, Amir and Baba moved to America.
A gutless fucking wonder!’ When Blacky explains to his father about the storm, Bob insults him rather than swallow his pride and takes his son’s advice on board. The relationship that is shared between Blacky and his father has negatively impacted Blacky’s self-esteem so much that it has led to him not having faith in his own father and to expect no support. During the novel, the desertion that Bob shows toward his son leads Blacky to be more independent, and he learns to expect no support from his father, as he cannot rely on Bob to look after him. The grand final, and Dumby Red’s funeral are examples of when Gary seeks his father’s input,
When he awakes in heaven, he meets five people who guide him and each person teaches him a lesson. The purpose of these meetings are to help him understand his life on earth. The action continues to rise as Eddie meets each person, in heaven, and even through the flashbacks to Eddie’s previous birthdays where we see how the conflicts developed through Eddie’s life on earth. Throughout Eddie’s life, we learn that he has constantly been battling to gain his father’s approval. After the death of Eddie's father, Eddie is still angry with him for those things he did to hurt him while he was still alive.
These people may have been loved ones or distant strangers. Yet each of them changed your path forever. One by one, Eddie's five people illuminate the unseen connections of his earthly life. As the story builds to its stunning conclusion, Eddie desperately seeks redemption in the still-unknown last act of his life: Was it a heroic success or a devastating failure? The answer, which comes from the most unlikely of sources, is as inspirational as a glimpse of heaven itself.
Unfortunately, Stephen died in a bombing raid while John was badly wounded in Iraq. Secondly, the relationships of the boys with their father are similar too. Stephen lied about his age to join in regardless of his father’s oppose and John had a confliction with his father. But
Due to his lack of friends he tries to create a bond with Sam and it makes it even more valuable due to Hally’s loneliness. He would always “try out a few ideas but sooner or later” he’d “end up in there with” Sam and Willie. He would always look for something to do and always wonder what he should do and think of some ideas but in the end he knew that they would always be there and he would never be let down by them. Hally feels a strong sense of humiliation and all of it because of his crippled and alcoholic father whom made him feel a constant let down in his life. When Hally was young his father “was dead drunk on the floor of the Central Hotel Bar” and Sam helped Hally bring him home.
Anne Sexton tells of Icarus plunging to his death “while his sensible daddy goes straight to town,” in her poem ‘To a Friend Whose Work has come to Triumph.’ In the myth Daedalus searches the ocean for his lost son. Maybe he feels guilty for being the maker of such faulty wings. Or perhaps he blames his son for not heeding his warnings, and really is callous in reactions. When reading variations of this myth, they almost speak to your own life’s experiences and lessons we have all learned. These authors explore the relationship between classical myth and contemporary life.
For Okonkwo, however, any kind of softness and tenderness was a sign of weakness. Throughout the novel we are shown men with a more mature understanding of masculinity, but Okonkwo's ignorance often disallows him to think thoroughly of his actions. At other times; however, Okonkwo's strength was all he had and was the primary factor that controlled his behavior. He could not accept the fact that in a colonized society he would be an average person, rather than a distinguished and powerful male. Okonkwo was one of the strongest and most respected men in his society.
Many times, tragic flaws cause the tragic heroes to die or face downfall and Okonkwo’s case was not any different. He never wanted to end up like his father who died a shameful death, but ironically, he kills himself and “will be buried like a dog” (191, ch.25). Things Fall Apart meets certain criteria to be considered a tragedy. Just like many other tragedies, the main character Okonkwo, who had to face an unfortunate ending, was a good person and did not mean harm to anyone. All he wanted to do was to be successful to serve his ancestors and for his children to be successful as well and have good lives.
