In the second expedition, not knowing that the Martians were not immune to chicken pox the explores accidently bring the disease and kill all the Martians. Bradbury did this to again like in Fahrenheit 451 convey that technology is capable of destroying a society and their past. Lastly Bradbury in one of the chronicles creates a character named Walter Gripp and he is one of the last persons on earth, so he tries to get in contact with women and we he goes to see her he sees that she is fat and ugly so he runs away and decides that he rather be alone. Just like in Fahrenheit 451 this shows that the advancement of technology can make people less social and
"Power lay in the brown swell of his forearms: authority sat on his shoulder and chattered like an ape...turned his mask down to the seated boys, and pointed at them with the spear… Ralph made a sudden movement that became a stumble." (150). this showed how Ralph lost control over Jack, and became weak. Also, Jack is compared to an ape, a creature that is known as a murderer. This exemplifies how Jack is converting into, not just a savage, but a violent killer.
One major comparison between two stories is that they both have characters that use violence in order to gain what they desire. In The Lord of the Flies the antagonist, Jack, can be compared parallel to the creation of Frankenstein. Jack is one of the older boys on the island who became leader of the hunters but wishes to have complete power over the group of boys. Jack is wild, cruel and represents human savagery. When Jack is not accepted by all of the boys as the new leader he becomes angry and violent against those who disagree with him.
His devolution into an ape represents a change towards a more primitive nature, and possibly violent due to the lack of sentience. The metaphor "hiss" compares Jacks speech to a snake, an animal that commonly has negative connotations, such as lies, deceit and simple evil. These connotations are primarily derived from the genesis book of the bible, in which the snake tempts eve into sinning and results in both Adam and eve’s expulsion from the Garden of Eden. The snake in the genesis story is believed to be Satan taking the form of a snake; while extreme it is possible that Golding is comparing Jack to The Devil himself, the literal manifestation of evil and sin. Else the reference to the snake could be a comparison of Adam and Eves fall from grace to Jacks own fall.
In the original film (Hitchcock) the old dark and colorless film, the creep music provide the viewers an idea that something wicked is about to happen. Therefore again both directors did provide enough action to carry over to each scene. In the remake the casting was truly wrong; For instance the infamous character Norman Bates, the psychopathic motel owner was played by fast talking, macho man Vince Vaughn. In the remake the Norman appears to be more of a sexual predator, whom would actually please himself as he watch Marion through a peephole in the shower scene; which gives the audience a different point of view about this film and van sant character Norman. However in the original version Anthony Perkins plays Norman Bates, who truly fit the character with calmer attitude, and good boy looks as Norman.
The guards and the warden use fear to force the prisoner’s compliance. The main character realises that no matter how strong the authority there is always an escape. In the beginning of the text the chief guard beats a man to death because he was crying in his cell. The director uses a close-up camera angle of this unknown man’s face to create the effect of making the audience feel sympathy towards this inmate being abused and to abhore the chief guard and his treatment towards those of which he has complete control over. In my visual representation the images of Hitler and other dictators, groups such as the Klu kluck Klan, and Religious cults from history were used to portray this idea.
When lion tries to kill his prey he doesn’t care what the other animal would feel. He just kills the prey roughly, just so that he can prove his kinghood. Important Quote • “the Lord of the Flies hung on his stick” – This quote is said by Simon. He is able to see things and have sense that the other boys are not capable of. In this case, he sees fear, violence, death in other words, himself, and all other human beings captured in the grinning face of the
| “The Ministry of Peace wages war” pg3 | I can only assume that proles are the ones fighting in these endless wars. They're the only ones that believe and love their corrupt government. | “The Ministry of Truth conducts propaganda and historical revisionism” pg3 | Working in the Ministry of Truth has to be the worst because they force their employees to lie both to themselves and to the rest of the people. | “The Ministry of Love is the center of the Party's operations of torture and punishment." | To the proles, it's like any other jail/prison but, for the people between the Party & proles, it become a transformation center to turn them all into brainwashed zombies.
All the pills did was take every bit of pleasure out of sex. Thus did science and morals go hand in hand. (Welcome to the Monkey House, p. 29) This passage contains strong hints of sarcasm, and prove that Vonnegut believes that science and government should stay out of our personal lives and out of our minds. While Billy contained all the tradition elements of a villain in this story, he was doubtlessly the hero. Again, Vonnegut's main character is composed of two complementary sides; one good, and one evil; together forming the whole person.
