Horace Greeley was born in Amherst, New Hampshire (U.S. History.com, 2013) on February 3, 1811 to Zaccheus Greeley and Mary Woodburn (Howe, 2013). b.) His family moved around a lot, so he was home-schooled off and on, until the age of 14. According to the Unitarian and Universalist Biography web page, Horace loved to read and mostly taught himself. As a teenager, he worked as an apprentice printer for a newspaper in Vermont, called “Northern Spectator” (Howe, 2013).

Salinger was the youngest of two and the only boy born to his parents, Sol and Miriam Salinger. Salinger was always considered intelligent, however he flunked out of the McBurney School near his home in upper west New York. After flunking out of school, his parents decided to send him to Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pennsylvania (Haudgruff; Salinger).
When he was 14, he ran away from home and went to travel with a carnival, where he would become many things over the years for a summer job. (Scholastic 1) When he was younger, he did not enjoy reading. When he was in the ninth grade, he failed. (Houghton –Mifflin 1) He started to write stories when he became an editor. After that job, he moved back to Minnesota and finished his first novel.

His dad was Jewish and his mom was Christian, just like the main character in the story The Catcher in The Rye. As a child he grew up attending public schools and military academy in New York. He first started writing in magazines in New York but he also wrote several stories in his early times like A Perfect Day for Banana Fish.
Although F. Scott Fitzgerald lived a rather tragic later life, his beginnings weren’t as terrible. F. Scott Fitzgerald was born as Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, named after Francis Scott Key who wrote the famous and easily recognizable “Star Spangled Banner”. He was born on September 24, 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He had one sibling and moved from place to place several times. As a student he attended St. Paul Academy in his home town, The Newman School, and then Princeton University.
He excelled in writing, and was top of his class, but he failed math. Ben didn’t like helping his father make candles and soap. When he was 12 he was hired by his brother James who was a printer. Section 2 – In 1720 Franklin’s brother James started the second newspaper in America. Benjamin worked as a delivery boy, and wrote in his free time, which he enjoyed immensely.
Biography of Washington Irving (1783-1859) Washington Irving was born in 1783 in New york City. He was the youngest of eleven children of a wealthy merchant father, who was a Scottish immigrant.From his early age, Irwing influenced by the literary tastes of his brothers William and Peter.After he graduated from a private school, he went into alw office to avoid his family business,which he hated. He was a passionate literature lover and so on he quited from his job in the law office.When he was 19, he wrote articles for two newspaper which edited by his brother Peter.He wrote a series of youthful satires of New York City for the Chronicle, called the Letters of Jonathan Oldstyle. These Works are his first literary productions. As many young people did, Irwing also traveled to Europe to further his education.He would use material collected during this trip later in his stories and essays.At least we can say that Irwing’s creativity comes from his collections from his trips.After two years passed in Europe, Irwing return to America and New York City and he turned more seriously to literature.In his travelings through Europe Irwing had a great oportunity meet with some important artist and writers of Europe and he had some good lifelong friendships.
John dos Passos A little biography. Born John Roderigo Madison en 1896, John dos Passos was a writer, although he was well studied in other arts like architecture and painting. He lived in Europe until he was five years old, which resulted in him having learned French as his first language. When he was five he and his mother came back to America, where young John started showing that he was no regular boy. He graduated from school early, and entered Harvard in 1912, after a year spent traveling to Europe, but now as a young adult.

On top of writing “The House on Blackberry Street”, Weaver was also multiple-time Honors and AP student, and a seven-time varsity wrestler and football player at his high school, where he graduated a year early, at age 16. At the time of his writing “The House on Blackberry Street”, Weaver lived with his step mom, father and little sister in Pennsylvania.
