What women want. When we were first told about writing an ethnographic paper, I knew from the get go that I would want to write about what women want in a man. I thought I would go in, ask my question, and they would give me a break down on the perfect man. I believed they would have pulled out diagrams and pin point summaries. They would give me pointers on how to stride to become that man. What I found out was completely different. What women look for in a man changes as time goes by. I recently went to a funeral, and a “Pot-Luck-Dinner.” I thought this would be a good study group to ask my question. So, I waited until most of the grieving family members left. At the end of the day, I was left with 7 women, ranging from 16 to 79, and asked the one question most men would love the answer to. “What is it you look for in a man?” In the beginning, they all seemed a little shy. No one wanted to answer. And if they did, the answers were very short. Now, once the wine started pouring, that’s when the inhibitions were lost, and realness came out! “Lois” is a 79 year young widow, who lost her husband of 58 years two years ago to cancer.
