Megan’s Talk 7-13 Obedience I am going to start out with a scripture from D&C 93:24, 26-28. It says, “The spirit of truth is of God, and no man can receiveth the fullness unless he keepeth his commandments. He that keepeth God’s commandments recieveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.” Our Heavenly father has given us the commandments to guide us and to protect us. Being obedient is doing God’s will. He knows what is best for us and he doesn’t want us to get hurt, so obeying His commandments will save us a lot of grief in the long run.
The second fundamental priniple is “the ruling norm of a christian decision is love; nothing else”. Jesus replaces the torah with the principle of love. The 10 commamdments are not abolsute, jesus broke them when love demanded it. Love replaces law. Also, christian love is self-giving making it right to go out and help others instead of avoiding actions.
It shows Christians that they should help everyone who is in need, leaving no one behind. Jesus also has the Commandment of Love, ‘you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart ... You shall love your neighbour as yourself’. The Commandments of Love underpins the relationship between God and his believers. The Ten Commandments are a list of religious rules given to the people of Israel by God. It outlines the behaviours that are not allowed personally or not to be tolerated in others.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV) In reality, love is none of those things. As a matter of fact, the true description of love is much darker, much less romantic or poetic than the common perception. Truth is, love is an inescapable trap. Salvation is a completely free gift from the Lord and comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. This is idea lead people to a gracious lifestyle in order to be saved. This fear was accomplished by the dreadful images of hell to make people live good lives, in order to not suffer at the end of
According to Luther, a strong faith is the foundation and necessity for a good Christian life. Luther defines a true Christian as “a spiritual, new, and inward man.” Luther makes it clear that no outward or bodily actions are connected with the “liberty or the slavery of the soul.” No evil bodily or external works will injure the soul. Nor will any pure external actions or works save the soul. The most important thing for Christian salvation is the Bible, or as Luther refers to it, “the most holy word of God, the Gospel of Christ.” In order for the soul to be saved, we need the word of God, nothing more. In order to receive salvation, one must have faith in the word of God and “preach Christ”.
However, his need for the security and safety of the mountain and his outlaw friends reduce his ability to move from under there power. The first principle is humble your heart, which Wilkes mentions, “ True humility does not lead to exhaustion but frees us to serve others” (Wilkes, 1998, p.37). It illustrates the significance role of “true humility” to servant leadership. In addition, this phrase emphasize the humbleness is comes from the leaders own heart like Jesus. To achieve humbleness, which is not as easy as present in the book. Considering other in the first place, providing service with one’s own willing, waiting the assignment from God, and having unique characteristics are the key to success.
This worldview is quite similar to Christianity. Both Christian theism and EPM’s goal is to reunite with God or Brahman. In EPM there is no right or wrong while in Christian theism one must follow Christian moral values. Furthermore, the major difference that I can notice is that in Christian theism, God loves us as individuals while in EPM individuality means nothing. The best way to be one with Brahman is to do nothing, to achieve nirvana.
