These other objects, in turn, was put into motion by still another object preceding it, and so forth. This series cannot go on backward to infinity, though, since there would otherwise be no first mover and thus no subsequent movement. Therefore, we must conclude that there is a first unmoved mover, which we understand to be God. Second, we observe that everything has an efficient cause and that nothing is or can be the cause of itself. It is impossible, though, that the series of causes should extend back to infinity because every cause is dependent on a prior cause and the ultimate cause is thus dependent on a previous cause.
Secondly, Aquinas concludes that common sense observation tells us that no object can create itself. In other words, some previous object creates it, but there cannot be an endless string of objects causing other objects to exist. Aquinas believes that ultimately there must have been an uncaused first cause that begins the chain of existence for all things. I quite assent to the idea that there must have a first unmoved mover to put the universe into motion. As we all know, everything has a beginning and an end, so as to the universe.
Analyse the essential ideas in the Ontological Argument The Ontological (meaning ‘concerned with being’) argument is the only a priori argument for the existence of God. This means that it does not rely on the evidence of our senses for its premises or conclusion. It works by logical stages, which is self evidently true or logically necessary. This is one of its major strengths. It is also deductive, so the conclusion is the only possible one that could be deduced give the premises.
Vinegar, Antacid, and Soap all became positive solutions after I put in the enzyme. A change in pH disrupts an enzyme's shape and structure. pH measure acidity--water is neutral and has a pH of 7. When the pH changes an enzyme's structure, the enzyme can't do its job. Changes in pH break the delicate bonds that maintain an enzyme's shape.
The solution added reacted by turning the solution into a transparent liquid. This reaction is endothermic because the solution HC1 and Na2EDTA added decreased the reaction as the equilibriums both shifted to the left. When Na2SO4 was added the equilibrium should have shifted to the left. The solution reacted by creating more HSO4 even more when the 10 drops of the sodium sulfate solution was added as the color changed to a much lighter solution. When NaHSO4 was added the equilibrium should have shifted to the
Or two, the oppositely charged ions will be attracted to each other with such force that, it will form an ionic compound that is insoluble in water. The insoluble product is the precipitate. These reactions are known as double replacement reaction. Safety The use of protective goggles were required during this experiment due to the harmful chemical being mixed together as well as the harmful reactions occurring as ionic compounds were being mixed. Also we must be wary of wafting these compounds correctly, to directly sniff any of these reactions could turn out very dangerously.
Death, in Socrates’ mind is a separation of the soul from the body. The body is a distraction in that it has needs and desires which must be attained to when alive, such as food, water, and shelter. He believes that the body is incapable of discovering the truth and that action is the purpose of the soul itself. A body and its immortal soul are separate, and only when the soul is separated from the body from death is it able to reason by itself. A philosopher’s ideal state is when his/her soul is relieved of its bodily duties and can gain true knowledge.
The prime mover is the thing that created everything and exists by necessity, therefore has to exist. It is perfect and cannot change, as the ability to change would mean that it is not perfect. This also means it is pure good as a lack of goodness means you can do better and doing better would require change. The prime mover cannot interact with the physical world and has no plan for us, going against the idea of God, the prime mover most people believe in. The prime mover is the unmoved mover, this is similar to the domino effect were someone (the prime mover) nocks over a domino causing the adjacent dominos to topple as well but the starter of the chain reaction is unmoved itself.
This law states that in a closed system (our universe) energy can neither be created or destroyed it can only be transformed into another form. The most important part of this law is that this energy can only stay in that closed system. This so important is because this part proves to us that dualism is wrong. Let’s say that someone steps on your foot, for you to feel pain there has to be an energy sent from your foot to your mind so your mind can tell your foot to feel pain but there is a problem, according to a dualist the mind is not part of this universe so this energy can never be sent to the mind because according to the law of conservation of energy, energy can never leave this universe. Now the dualist would say that there is a part in the brain that links the brain to the mind but this would not work because even if there was a link between the brain and the mind that energy would still be sent out of our universe to another universe only it would be using a link.
Although this possibility does not address the question, “Why is there something rather than nothing?” It supports certain finite causes. An infinite regress of causes for existence could have not started off from a first cause because the finite cause caused the first and a finite cause caused that find and so forth, meaning that the if you Consider C then you have to consider A because both possibilities acknowledge that there’s an infinite cause of existence. This possibility is implausible because it is already confirmed that the universe is finite and that a first finite cause caused the universe into being. This possibility infinitely fights off the problem of
