Dana Stevens "Thinking Outside the Idiot Box" is a direct response to Steven Johnson's essay " Watching TV makes you Smarter". Stevens said that she did not understand what his article was about. She did not really agree with anything besides that watching tv is okay-- you should'nt watch a lot of it but you should watch a decent amount of it. Some things that Stevens seemed to talk a lot about was that Johnson metioned something the show 24 saying that it is "nutritional" but fails to mention that there was controversy over plot lines that had to do with torture and representation of Muslim terrorists in the show. But she does mention that the show did somehow get social issues into the show which can open viewers eyes about what is going
The representation of this film follows very close to the stereotypes of what the character is supposed to be with the exception of Blane and Andy who weren’t following the necessary rules of being a “preppie” or “geek” because they both fell in love with each other. For Napoleon Dynamite the target audience I think will be for people aged 13 to 18 because the humour is very dry and older people may not like it. I think the representation of this film exaggerates stereotypes for example when Napoleon tell his brother Kip that he “has the worst reflexes of all time” because Kip wants to be a cage fighter and when they fight they give each other little pushes and
In fact, the only people that would go on this show are low class and don't have a lot of money. Also, the show is all fake wannabe actors. As, I analyzed Jerry Springer, I realized that it does all seem fake. I realized that the more fights on the show, the more kids will watch the show. However, I was still guilty of watching it as a kid, when my parents weren't home.
It seems normal that The Odyssey would have one but O Brother, Where Art Thou? Both Cyclopes each wanted one thing from each character. In the movie he wanted money, but in the book he wanted something a bit more valuable, his life. Within the movie and book there was a wooden object used as a weapon. Both stories the Cyclops fooled our main character into doing something.
I never liked the Disney Hercules movie when I was younger not because it wasn’t good it was just I couldn’t sit still for that long and watch a movie. Now that I can sit still a little better I really do like the movie made by Disney. They’re more differences than similarities in the move Hercules and the handout “The Labours of Hercules.” The similarities of the Disney movie and the handout are that Hercules is born to Zeus. Hercules is born a god also Hades the ruler of the underworld wants to get rid of Hercules. In both stories Hercules has superhuman strength and performs feats no other human can another similarity would be that Hercules battles the hydra.
The only reason they voted for Ralph was because he had the conch. This shows how important the conch was to all the kids at first, but as the boys became more and more savage the conch started to be worthless to them, along with civilization and order. The conch was originally a powerful symbol of civilization and leadership, but the boys stopped caring about it, so they stopped caring about the last bit of civilization they still had. There was still a small sense of civilization left in all the children that kept that kept them from becoming total savages. But that was lost when Roger killed Piggy and destroyed the conch.
In the book the characters of Atticus, Jem, and Scout have you captivated. I did not enjoy the movie because it didn’t explain things as much as I would have liked it to. Also in the movie they did not show some of the scenes which occurred in the book and I believe that those scenes are important. Overall To Kill a Mockingbird is a good book that I really enjoyed
Many books not written in historical context contain vulgar language and are still allowed in high school. Books such as To The Wedding, Of Mice and Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, etc. are books that are considered to have vulgar language in them, yet they are still used in schools. It is wrong to ban a book because of the language or because it does not follow certain people’s morals because then you are losing the possible educational value. “The books that help you most are those which make you think the most.” (Theodore Parker).
The way I feel is why tell kids if we don’t even realize it ourselves? I never sat there once and thought um maybe scar from lion king is a homo sexual because of the way he sang or walked? How can you sit there watching a child’s film and think that I feel that’s wrong to even look at a Disney film that way but that’s the way she feels and I can’t change her opinion of that. But another thing I have a problem with that she says that gave her clues that scar was a homo sexual was when simba first said “you’re so weird Uncle Scar” then scar comes back and replies with “You have no idea”. She says with the tone of voice he said with makes it look like he is a homo sexual, I think she is saying that because he said with a very mysterious tone and sounded weird but of course it’s going to sound like that when he’s planning to kill his brother.
When a baby enter this world they have under went a transformation from something very small and insignificant to a human baby, they of course don’t remember this transformation and that is why Merlin’s teachings were so eccentric. He made Arthur or as then called Wart undergo this very same transformation only he was a boy and he could remember it all. For this reason Merlin did not accompany Wart on most of his journeys. Wart had been told it was because he needed to learn on his own which was true but Merlin had a deeper agenda. Merlin’s plan all along was to teach Arthur how to think, that way when faced with problems in later life he would have a chance to make the right
