Every person has a different personality and lifestyle. Along with their differences, it is common for three out five people in a group to be of the same race. In the dictionary, these are two definitions find for race: 1) a group of persons related by common descent or heredity, 2) any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc. In school systems, state mandated tests and other important forms you are asked to categorize yourself within five to six categories under the race/ethnicity section. In our group, three of us are "Hispanic" and another member is half "Hispanic". Although three of us are full blooded, only two are united by the language and all three plus the half, are united by familiar cultural traits. We are all of similar descent that would categorize us as Hispanic; however, our lifestyles are not all the same. People can check which one will benefit them the most and use it for their advantage. For example, a fellow classmate prefers to check Hispanic on school standardized tests because they know the Hispanic half, the minority half, of their heritage can get them better financial benefits for college as compared to her white side, the majority race. Individuals can choose to check the race they are most proud of or the race they want to be associated with. Tyra Banks went into elaboration with this topic of presenting which race is preferred on a show titled “Biracial People Who Hate One Side of Themselves”. She talked with adults who were biracial who choose to only admit one side of their race and explain why they deny the other half.
