One more important idea, care of well-being of people penetrates all subsequent philosophy and religion of China. From it concept Tian Ming or Will of the Sky was born. This belief has formed base for development of the subsequent philosophy of China, also as their political, social, material culture have given seeds for blossoming the subsequent civilization of China. If also there is the unique idea connecting all history of development as religion, and philosophy of China, so it is “consciousness of care” idea. Even in western and east empires of Dezhou it is possible to find traces of firm belief that the Sky hears and sees also as hear and see people and consequently accepts active participation in their destiny.
(602) He moves on to the subject of ruling shortly thereafter, in which he thinks a ruler’s duty is “not to prescribe anything to human beings in religious matters but to leave them complete freedom”(603) and so, the ruler “is himself enlightened”(603). Alas, he goes on to talk about people’s “freedom of spirit”(604) and ways in which they
‘’Philosophers have proved conclusively that religious language is meaningful’’. Discuss. The religious language debate is not concerned with whether or not God exists or what God is like. It’s sole concern is with working out whether religious language means anything or not. On one hand you have the philosophers who believe you can speak and write about God, because God is reality.
As a western thinker Tao is similar to the omniscient God. The main difference between the monotheistic God and Tao is that God is acknowledged as a supreme being whereas Tao is more of holistic conception of the world. Tao by nature cannot be expressed, it is unnamed, unlimited, and indefinable but all physical things in the universe are manifestations of Tao. Tao is considered by most to not be a code of ethics nor a guideline to life but rather it is a functional reality that we as beings encounter at every moment. Throughout Lao-Tzu teachings, he develops a conception of evil that explains the coexistence of Tao and evil.
Also at the center of the pyramid was a chamber held for the pharaohs mummified body’s surrounded by their treasurer which they thought they could carry with them to the afterlife( Culture and Values, Cunningham /Reich, 2010 , chapter 1). What is the central concept of Taoism and what does it emphasize? The central concept of Taoism is harmony with natural process in the inner (within ourselves) and outer (our surrounding) world. Taoism begun in china over 25000 yrs ago created by a sage named Confucius he wanted to create a new and virtuous social order. Taoism teached and emphasized the limitation of human perceptio, passivity, resignation and simple guidelines to live a good life in harmony with nature and the universe (Culture & Values, Cunnigham/Reich, 2010, chapter 5, pg 123).
This is called the inconsistent triad. David Hume thus believed that God is either not omnipotent, or not omnibenevolent or evil does not exist. According to Mackie, each of these possibilities answers the problem of evil but none of them are orthodox. Since we have sufficient direct experience to support the existence of evil, if God exists he is either an impotent God or a malicious God — not the God of classical theism. Hume and Mackie conclude that God therefore does not exist.
Life is fortitude, not corporeal matter. Jainism is life state but world refute. Jains rebuff an acquisitive way of life. Jain monks rebuff physical feature of worldly subsistence. Freedom of the spirit from matter is up to the efforts of the person.
Our basic understanding of language doesn’t necessarily apply to religion and we see this clearly throughout Hick’s article. For example one might say “ Our God is a loving God”. As Hicks states God has no logical existence or bodily presence in which to express love. Love as we understand it is acted upon. It begins with being felt on the inside deep within our very being is acted upon externally through the use of our bodies and our minds.
‘Natural Law is of no use when dealing with issues concerning the environment.’ Discuss. (35) Natural Law is an ethical theory first developed by Thomas Aquinas. It is an absolutist and deontological approach where humans use their reason to fulfil their purpose in order to achieve the ultimate good – eternal happiness with God in heaven. Nowadays, the environment has become a polemic issue, causing disagreement amongst many circles. A follower of natural law would say that the statement is flawed, and that the theory can be extremely useful when dealing with issues concerning the environment.
It would seem that both Diana Eck and John Stott are correct to a point. All religions cannot be truly be equal because then there would be no point, as the authority of the religious doctrine and its rites would be lost to some neutral all-purpose pseudo faith. But, pluralism as practiced in institutions such as the U.S. military and the U.S. legal system is not some neutral all-encompassing attempt at a single faith. Nor is it the suggestion that all faith paths lead to the same source. Rather, pluralism is really the commitment to and execution of religious tolerance.
